Netflix’s “Hellbound 2” struggles with continuous problems from the production stage.
According to Netflix on June 12th, actor Yang Dong Geun will not be able to participate in “Hellbound 2” due to personal circumstances. He is expected to be replaced by actor Hong Eui Joon.
Yang Dong Geun was originally cast to play the leader of Sodo, a cult that against Min Hye Jin (Kim Hyun Joo) and the New Truth cult.
Yoo Ah In, who previously played New Truth’s leader Jung Jin Soo in Season 1, was supposed to appear in Season 2, but he dropped out of the project due to his drug use scandal. Therefore, actor Kim Sung Chul took on the role of Jung Jin Soo instead of Yoo Ah In.
“Hellbound 1” was released in 2021 and successfully reached the top spot in Netflix’s worldwide chart within 24 hours. Known as a series by “Train to Busan” and “Peninsula” director Yeon Sang Ho, “Hellbound” quickly drew keen attention and received favorable reviews for the completeness of the story as well as the excellent acting performances of the cast.
Thanks to the huge popularity of the first drama, Netflix then confirmed the production of Season 2. However, the plan for “Hellbound 2” was inevitably reorganized due to consecutive issues occurring even before its start. After several changes, the current lineup for Season 2 includes Kim Hyun Joo, Kim Sung Cheol, Moon Geun Young, Yang Ik Joon, Kim Shin Rok, etc.
Meanwhile, “Hellbound” depicts the supernatural phenomena in which people are sentenced to hell by the “angels” that appear out of a sudden, the religious cult called “New Truth”, which takes advantage of the chaotic world, and people who try to uncover the truth behind such mysterious incidents.
Season 2 revolves around events that unfold after the resurrection of Park Jung Ja (Kim Shin Rok), who was sent to hell by the “angels”, and Jung Jin Soo (Kim Sung Cheol) at the end of Season 1.
