From Song Hye Kyo’s drama “The Glory” to JMS issues… Netflix content is dominating the public interest

On March 3rd, “In the Name of God: A Holy Betrayal” was released on Netflix. Created by PD Cho Sung Hyun, who directed “PD Notebook”, this 8-episode documentary deals with the tragedy of 4 people who shook the whole nation by calling themselves Gods and the victims of the cult organizations led by the four.

The first three episodes focus on the disgusting sexual crimes of the JMS’s Chairman Jung Myung Seok. They include Jung Myung Seok’s statements and sexual crimes, as well as the appearance of real victims. The program has caused a sensation by showing the current status of many female victims of sexual abuse without filters and vivid descriptions of the victims’ emotions during the time of the abuse. 

The buzz of “In the Name of God” has even affected KBS. As Kim Do Hyung, a professor at Dankook University and former representative of JMS tracking group, revealed on KBS’s talk show “The Live” that there are JMS followers working for KBS, including a KBS PD and a female interpreter who frequently appears on KBS broadcasts. When professor Kim attempted to make another revelation about a rape case in China, the program ended abruptly. Finally, KBS confirmed that the PD and interpreter mentioned by professor Kim are not working at KBS.

Amid the popularity of “In the Name of God”, Netflix’s original series “The Glory” Part 2 re-emerged as the talk of the town, following its successful Part 1. Netflix even suffered a server crash when all the episodes of “The Glory” Part 2 were released at 5 p.m. on March 10th.
