From BTS’s V to Rain & Kim Tae-hee “Stars distressed by stalkers”

Many celebrities experienced distress due to stalking behavior by obsessed fans

On Oct 27th, it was reported that V had been a victim of stalking. Big Hit Music stated that they strictly adhere to a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to stalking crimes that infringe on artists’ private lives and threaten their safety.

According to the Seoul Gangnam Police Station, A, a woman in her 20s, was apprehended for attempting to approach V at his residence in Samseong-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul at around 6:30 p.m. on Oct 26th. In particular, A has been stalking V several times before. The police are investigating whether A is the same person who gave V marriage registration paper.

Actress Kim Tae-hee and her husband Rain also suffered from stalking by sasaeng fans. In 2020, Rain’s agency revealed the CCTV footage of the woman visiting Rain and Kim Tae-hee’s house and pressing the doorbell. The agency emphasized that if sasaeng fans continue to infringe on the artist’s private life and threaten their safety, they will take all legal measures without exception. Despite their efforts, the harassment persisted. In February last year, the Seoul Yongsan Police Station arrested a 47-year-old woman, referred to as A, for the offense. A was subsequently tried in December last year.

Trot singer Lee Chan-won also shared his experience with stalking, revealing that a middle-aged woman followed him, asked for an autograph and took a photo with him at a department store. After that, the stalker started following him everywhere.

Actor Park Seo-joon disclosed that he was stalked for about 2 months. Actress Park Ha-sun also admitted on an SBS Plus show in 2020 that she was stalked and expressed her fear.

KARA’s Park Gyuri revealed her stalkers during a live broadcast in March, saying these people persistently followed her. She clarified that these people were not fans and asked genuine fans not to apologize for these people’s actions.

Despite celebrities speaking out about the issue, stalking continues to be a concern. Stars like V adhere to a zero-tolerance policy and actively report incidents. Their fans are supporting these measures.
