Earlier on February 13th (local time), British public newspaper The Sun reported that there was a discord within the Korean national team during the Qatar Asian Cup.

In the evening before the semifinal match between Korea and Jordan, Lee Kang-in lead a group of young players left the dinner table to play table tennis after finishing their meals. Captain Son Heung-min, who considered the dinner a time of team bonding, told them to come back. In the process, there was a dispute and Son Heung-min suffered a dislocated finger.

The Korea Football Association (KFA) immediately acknowledged the controversy after The Sun’s report. In particular, controversy arose as rumors emerged that Lee Kang-in swung a fist at Son Heung-min in the process. Lee Kang-in denied the allegations and said, “Lee Kang-in deeply regrets and reflects on his wrongdoings.” In addition, Lee Kang-in posted a short apology on social media stories. Later, as criticism continued, Lee Kang-in posted a second apology. In addition, Son Heung-min also posted a photo with Lee Kang-in, asking fans to forgive him.

In the process, TV personality Fabien, who is working in Korea, was also attacked by malicious comments. Fabien, known as a Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) fan, opened a YouTube channel to communicate with fans after news of Lee Kang-in’s transfer to PSG was reported in June last year.

Fabien expressed his feelings at the time of the Lee Kang-in controversy through a live broadcast on the same day. “A lot of things happened last month,” he said, “I was also surprised and I think the subscribers were probably very surprised too.”

“After the article about Lee Kang-in’s argument with Son Heung-min came to me last month, many people said negative things to me such as ‘Go back to your country,’ ‘Go away Fabien,’ and ‘You are making money in Korea using Lee Kang-in.’ I was surprised to hear ‘Go back to your country.’ What does this mean? I was in France, do you mean to go back to Korea? I thought,” he said, expressing that Korea is also his home. “There were a lot of ridiculous comments for two to three days, but they were very funny to me. I’m not Lee Kang-in, I’m just Fabien, so I was surprised why you cursed at me and said bad things.” Fabien also said, “I didn’t get hurt at all. I just laughed. I’m not upset, hurt, and don’t feel sad at all.”

Fabien added, “A lot of people may think that this channel has made a lot of money, but it’s a deficit. Far from making money, I’m spending it. I can’t make money. I’ll disclose it because you may doubt it if I say it,” he said.

Fabien continued, “I shot seven videos in February and got 1.3 million views. My income is 2.4 million won. Will all of these come into my bank account? No. I pay taxes just like you. I paid 700,000 won to 800,000 won back to the country (Korea), what I have left is 1.6 million won. There are two producers who edit my videos, and of course I pay them. I can’t tell you exactly how much the editing fee is, but it’s well over 2 million won. My income is 1.6 million won. Think of it as minus 500,000 to 1 million won.”

Fabien also said, “Honestly, I get a lot of commercial offers, but I don’t accept them. There is no PPL in my video. Because I want to talk about soccer for my own fun,” adding, “There are a lot of people who misunderstand that Fabien made a lot of money, so I need to talk about it.”
