Netizens found Zhang Lan’s actions perplexing. As Barbie Hsu’s former mother-in-law, she has no emotional, legal, or logical connection to the actress’s death. According to regulations, hospitals would not disclose any private information about Barbie Hsu’s passing to Zhang Lan. However, a blogger claimed that Zhang Lan had managed to obtain information from Barbie Hsu’s attending doctor through the intervention of a high-status individual in Japan.

Barbie Hsu's ex-mother

Many netizens remain skeptical of Zhang Lan’s motives, speculating that she is stirring up public attention to profit from Barbie Hsu’s passing. Some even believe she may be preparing to involve herself in the fight over the late actress’ assets.

Meanwhile, Barbie Hsu had a strained relationship with Zhang Lan while she was alive. The former mother-in-law once accused her of drug use, prompting Barbie Hsu to publicly release negative drug test results to clear her name. Barbie Hsu later sued Zhang Lan for defamation.

Additionally, according to news site ET Today, Barbie Hsu’s ex-husband Wang Xiaofei and his mother Zhang Lan are allegedly using Barbie Hsu’s death for financial gain because they are facing a massive debt. Additionally, the mother and son have been involved in illegal business activities, including money laundering and setting up trust funds in Taiwan (China) under the names of relatives to conceal illicit funds. This has led to speculation that Wang Xiaofei’s actions following Barbie Hsu’s death are part of a calculated effort to garner sympathy, paving the way for a legal battle over inheritance and child custody.
