FIFTY FIFTY, “Barbie” OST music video filming canceled

Group FIFTY FIFTY’s Hollywood movie “Barbie” OST music video filming was eventually canceled. This is the aftermath of the discord with their agency Attrakt.

According to industry insiders on July 4th, FIFTY FIFTY was scheduled to film a music video following singing “Barbie Dreams”, one of the OSTs of “Barbie”, but failed to reach the filming stage as the discord with Attrakt was uncovered.

By appearing in the music video for “Barbie Dreams”, FIFTY FIFTY is expected to further increase their recognition level around the world. However, with the suspension of activities due to the conflict with the agency, FIFTY FIFTY blew the opportunity off. FIFTY FIFTY has not been able to carry out schedules at all since they filed an injunction against Attrakt to suspend their exclusive contract’s validity as well as the conflict between Attrakt and The Givers’ CEO Ahn Sung Il, who was in charge of producing “Cupid”, was disclosed.

Last May, “Barbie” released a list of singers participating in OSTs through their official SNS. Here, FIFTY FIFTY drew attention by being named alongside prominent pop singers such as Dua Lipa, Nicki Minaj and Lizzo.

FIFTY FIFTY was able to participate in the OST of “Barbie” because their agency Attrakt and Warner Records signed a partnership.

Warner Records had relatively little contact with K-pop singers, while its competitor Universal Music joined hands with major K-pop companies such as HYBE and JYP to target the global market. Therefore, it is known that there was a strategic plan to actively promote FIFTY FIFTY.

According to this strategy, FIFTY FIFTY planned to film the music video for “Barbie Dreams” as part of the movie promotion.

The Givers’ CEO Ahn Sung Il tried to persuade member Aran, who was recovering after surgery, to film the music video for “Barbie Dreams”.

However, ahead of the filming, FIFTY FIFTY members sent a proof of content related to the termination of the exclusive contract to Attrakt. In response, Attrakt’s CEO Jeon Hong Joon proposed postponing the filming schedule until the issues between the members and the company were resolved. Then, Attrakt’s claim was that CEO Ahn Sung Il said he would stay out of FIFTY FIFTY’s works if the group could not proceed with filming the music video.

Due to these circumstances, FIFTY FIFTY was not only unable to film the music video for “Barbie Dreams”.
