A shocking incident involving a female reporter being sexually harassed during a live broadcast has stirred global outrage.
According to the BBC, the event occurred in Madrid, Spain, while a journalist was covering a robbery case live in 2023. An unidentified man walking by groped the reporter’s buttocks on air. Visibly shaken, the journalist confronted the man, saying, “Even if you want to ask which channel we’re from, do you really need to touch my butt? I’m working live.”

Disturbingly, the man ignored her protests and went as far as to stroke her head before walking away. He remained nearby and returned to approach her again, leading to the interruption of the live broadcast. Authorities quickly intervened and arrested the man on site.
The case has reemerged amidst growing criticism of Spain’s deeply ingrained “macho culture,” amplified by the previous scandal involving Luis Rubiales, the former president of the Spanish Football Federation. Luis Rubiales had come under fire for kissing player Jenni Hermoso without consent during the Women’s World Cup medal ceremony.
Public response has been fierce. Social media users expressed heartbreak and anger, with comments such as, “The reporter’s face says it all. This shouldn’t ever happen again,” and “Perpetrators of sexual harassment must be held accountable.”

The news network, Mediaset España, which aired the live report, issued a strong statement condemning the assault:
“This is completely unacceptable. We stand in full support of our journalist and categorically reject all forms of sexual harassment and violence.”
This incident has reignited national and international discussions about the safety of women in public spaces and the need for cultural change. The #SeAcabó (“It’s Over”) movement in Spain continues to gain traction, demanding justice and respect for women in all professions, especially those in the public eye.
