“Father of K-pop” Seo Taiji and Boys, quiet and lonesome 30th debut anniversary

Seo Taiji and Boys, the “cultural president” who dominated the 1990s, are expected to finish their 30th debut anniversary quietly and lonesomely.

Some fans expected Seo Taiji‘s solo album release or project-like full group activities to commemorate the 30th debut anniversary, but it is unlikely that fans’ wishes will come true as the members have already walked their own paths for a long time.

Seo Taiji, who lives in the U.S. for his daughter Dam’s education, said through his official social media account on Dec 24th that it would take some time to release a new album.

He confessed, “Maybe the news you’re most curious about right now is my new album. I’ve been thinking about how to say it throughout the year. I wanted to tell a hopeful story this Christmas, but in fact, more unexpected things happened.

He added, “I’m very worried because I think that it may not be possible in a year or two based on the current judgment. It’s hard to explain right now because it’s a complicated situation, but there’s nothing bad about it, so you don’t have to worry. I’m just trying my best to find an answer.

Seo Taiji revealed his recent status, “Personally, the best thing was that Dam started going to school after finishing homeschooling due to the pandemic last year. However, recently, I tested positive for COVID-19 and completely lost my sense of smell.

The situation of other members, Yang Hyun Suk and Lee Juno, is also not good.

Yang Hyun Suk, the former CEO of YG, was found not guilty on charges of covering up B.I’s drug case. He has been through a long trial after being accused by former singer trainee Han Seo Hee that he conciliated and threatened her not to reveal the drug charges against his agency artist B.I.

As Yang Hyun Suk is ruled as “not guilty”, there is a possibility that he will return to YG. Currently, YG is in a series of crises, with Bang Ye Dam, the main vocalist of Treasure, leaving the team, and the doubt regarding BIGBANG’s future group activities.

Lee Juno was convicted twice in 2002 and 2016 on sexual harassment charges and was kicked out from the entertainment industry. Therefore, the eyes of fans and entertainment officials looking at him are cold.
