Although fans are hoping for Kep1er to become permanent, it seems like they have hinted at the opposite
Day 1 of the 2023 MAMA Awards, held on November 28, featured stellar performances from various outstanding artists, including ENHYPEN, TXT, TVXQ, and more.
In the midst of the award show, a particular stage setup hinted at the imminent disbandment of a 4th gen girl group, sparking worries among fans.
Debuting in 2022 through Mnet’s survival show Girls Planet 999, Kep1er was launched with nine members selected from 99 female trainees. Kep1er was introduced as a project girl group set to promote together for 2.5 years before disbanding like past Mnet survival shows’ temporary groups (I.O.I, Wanna One and IZ*ONE).
However, there has been no official announcements regarding Kep1er members’ participation in upcoming debuts following their disbandment. As a result, some fans optimistically hoped for contract extensions or a transition to a permanent group status for Kep1er, similar to fromis_9, who was formed through Mnet’s “Idol School.”
Towards the end of Kep1er’s stage at this year’s MAMA Awards, a screen displayed the words “Mission Complete,” most likely interpreted as part of their secret agent-themed performance. However, some fans perceived it as an indication that this MAMA Awards would be Kep1er’s last.
While Kep1er is scheduled to disband in July 2024, fans are still upset due to the revelation that this MAMA Awards might mark their final appearance at the award show. The possibility of Kep1er extending their activities beyond the slated disbandment deadline seems very low.
