Fans Baffled by HYBE’s Plans for BTS K-drama “Begins ≠ Youth”: Rip-off and Pyramid Scheme?
HYBE is being too greedy regarding “Begins ≠ Youth”, a high-anticipated K-drama inspired by BTS, said fans.
The BTS K-drama “Begins ≠ Youth”, which is inspired by BTS’ trilogy “The Most Beautiful Moment in Life”, is scheduled to be released soon, raising high anticipations from fans. In particular, episodes 1 to 4 will be available on April 30, episodes 5 to 8 on May 7, and episodes 9 to 12 on May 14.
However, HYBE’s plans regarding this series have ruined all the excitement due to the corporation’s weird tactics and extreme greed.
In particular, “Begins ≠ Youth” will premiere on the streaming platform Xclusive, which utilizes blockchain technology. Different from normal streaming platforms like Netflix and Disney+, users cannot buy a monthly subscription to access multiple titles, but are forced to purchase each content individually.
According to Xclusive, a package (with discounts) cost over 30 USD, and to watch the entire “Begins ≠ Youth” series, fans would have to pay at least 90 USD.
Additionally, the purchase period for contents on Xclusive is limited, and when this period expires, fans can no longer buy “Begins ≠ Youth” directly from the platform, but will have to resort to buying it from another user that previously bought the series.
Upon seeing this, many fans are baffled, finding such a tactic to highly resemble a pyramid scheme. As a result, they can’t help but express disappointment, saying that HYBE “can’t possibly sink any lower”.
Some are also saying that due to the pyramid-scheme vibe and the ridiculous pricing, they would not be supporting “Begins ≠ Youth”, and would rather resort to illegal streaming.
