“Extraordinary Attorney Woo” voted the No.1 favorite TV show by Koreans in July

Korean viewers are going crazy over “Extraordinary Attorney Woo”.

In a survey conducted by Gallup Korea asking 1,000 people over the age of 18 for their favorite TV show from July 19th to July 21st, cable channel ENA’s ongoing Wed-Thu drama “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” topped the ranking with 13.1%.

“Extraordinary Attorney Woo” centers on Woo Young Woo (Park Eun Bin), a genius first-year lawyer with autism spectrum disorder. The drama depicts her journey of growth at a large law firm to become a real attorney as she solve different cases with her colleagues, including Lee Jun Ho (Kang Tae Oh), Jung Myeong Seok (Kang Ki Young), Choi Su Yeon (Ha Yun Kyung), and Kwon Min Woo (Joo Jong Hyeok).

After its premiere at the end of last month, “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” quickly went viral, surpassing its highest viewership rating with every episode, drawing positive reviews, and becoming a hot topic of discussion on SNS and online communities.

With 13% of the total votes, “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” also broke the highest percentage of votes among the dramas, both on cable and public channels, in Gallup Korea’s “Favorite TV Show” survey since January 2013. So far, the dramas that have exceeded 10% in preference are KBS2’s “My Daughter Seoyoung”, SBS’s “My Love from the Star”, MBC’s “Empress Ki”, MBC’s “Jang Bori is Here”, KBS2’s “Descendants of the Sun”, tvN’s “Goblin”, JTBC’s “SKY Castle” and ENA’s “Extraordinary Attorney Woo”.

The second most popular TV show among Koreans this month is KBS 2TV’s daily drama “Gold Mask” with 4.2%. “Gold Mask” revolves around Yoo Su Yeon (Cha Ye Ryun), an ordinary office worker who marries into a chaebol family and becomes a modern-day Cinderella. Director Eo Soo Seon and writer Kim Min Joo are reunited in this drama. Their previous work, KBS1’s “Sunny Again Tomorrow”, ranked 3rd in the “Favorite TV shows” poll in October 2018.

Koreans in their 20s from 50s, regardless of gender, voted for “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” as their favorite show, but for women over 60, the evening daily dramas “Gold Mask” and “Bravo, My Life” were their picks. For men over 60, MBN’s “I Am a Natural Person” is the most popular.

EBS’s documentary “World Theme Travel” (1.9%), which has resumed its filming since July after two years and introduces new destinations, ranked 9th as the travel restrictions due to the pandemic have been lifted. “World Theme Travel” frequently ranked in the Top 20 in the monthly survey of “Favorite TV shows” from 2018 to 2019, when it was the heyday of travel and experience entertainment content. The program occasionally made it into the rankings during the pandemic, when viewers had a thirst for travel.

In addition, tvN’s “You Quiz on the Block” and KBS1’s “Bravo, My Life” (3.8%) tied for 3rd place. KBS2’s “It’s Beautiful Now” (3.3%) ranked 5th, MBN’s “I Am a Natural Person” (3.1%) ranked 6th, MBC’s “Hangout with Yoo” (2.8%) ranked 7th, SBS’s “My Little Old Boy” (2.0%) ranked 8th, and KBS2’s “2 Days & 1 Night Season 4” (1.8%) took 10th place.

In the 11th to 20th place were MBC’s “Doctor Lawyer”, SBS’s “Running Man”, SBS’s “Unanswered Questions”, SBS’s “Why Her”, MBC’s “I Live Alone”, TV Chosun’s “I Like Tuesday Nights”, tvN’s “Alchemy of Souls”, Channel A’s “The Fishermen and The City”, Channel A’s “My Golden Kids”, ENA PLAY/SBS Plus’s “I Am Solo”, and SBS’s “Dolsing Fourmen”, in this order.
