“Extraordinary Attorney Woo” succeeds because it does not have these 4 details

Some viewers say that they feel relieved because these 4 details don’t appear in “Extraordinary Attorney Woo”.

Extraordinary Attorney Woo”, which is about to reach 10% viewer rating with only 6 episodes released, is currently a hot topic. The drama, which failed to air on SBS, has rather become a global hit drama through Netflix. Here are the 4 things that “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” doesn’t include in their story but that actually help the drama succeed in becoming a representative work of all the cast members, including Park Eun-bin.

◆ Villain

There is no villain who tries to trap or kill the main character. It’s a cliché in dramas these days that they create villains to make fast developments and boost the viewers’ immersion, but “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” was different. The two rival law firms, Hanbada, where Young-woo works, and Taesan, were expected to compete fiercely over the acceptance of cases with conspiracies, but they turned out to be unnecessary details.

In the first episode, Young-woo’s senior lawyer Jung Myung-seok (Kang Ki-young) was suspected of being a villain but this character is actually the other way round. He was revealed to be an exemplary boss who is like a warm father to his juniors. A viewer commented, “It’s been a long time since I waited and watched a drama on time at exactly 9 p.m with no worries.”

◆ PPL

What if Young-woo takes out a pink aqua lip balm whenever she goes on a field investigation with her love line’s partner Jun-ho (Kang Tae-oh)? What if Jung Myung-seok gives Korean red ginseng extract sticks to his junior lawyers after successful cases? PPL, which can break the flow of the drama, rarely appears in “Extraordinary Attorney Woo”. Even though Park Eun-bin has been an advertisement model for KGC Ginseng Corporation for 4 years, it doesn’t affect her drama.

The same was true for “My Liberation Notes” but there were many scenes and situations in “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” where PPL could be added in different ways, such as the sofa, kimbap franchise, massage chair, car, cosmetics, etc., the planning PD decided to not do so. It is said that the production company AStory, which was criticized for adding excessive PPL in its previous work “Jirisan”, might have learned a lesson.

◆ No acting holes

The fact that it is difficult to find a bad acting performance is also mentioned as a reason to explain the rise in “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” rating. Among the characters surrounding the female lead, there is no actor who gets bad responses for their acting skills. Jeon Bae-soo, who plays Young-woo’s father – a graduate from Seoul Law School, Baek Ji-won and Jin Kyung, who appear as CEOs of two rival law firms, as well as Joo Hyun-young, who comes out as Woo Young’s best friend Dong Geu-ra-mi, all received favorable reviews for their stable performances.

Some viewers compared “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” with “Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area”, which is considered a failure. In the case of “Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area”, starring Yoo Ji-tae and Kim Yoon-jin, some actors’ diction and acting were bad enough for the viewers to comment, “You had better turn on Korean subtitles”. In “Extraordinary Attorney Woo”, all the actors are said to be doing better than average. In particular, the pronunciation and voice control of Park Eun-bin, who debuted as Park Sang-won’s daughter in “White Nights 3.98” at the age of 6, are praised as a textbook for junior actors.

◆ Lee Kyung-young

Some viewers jokingly said, “I’m relieved that Lee Kyung-young is absent from this drama”. Up until his recent series “Again My Life”, Lee Kyung-young has appeared in various works about corruption and power and raised the tension of the shows to the highest level.

Lee Kyung-young, who is close to “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” director Yoo In-sik. Director Yoo, who waited a year for Park Eun-bin to finish her previous drama “The King’s Affection”, cast Lee Kyung-young in his hit series “Vagabond”. Even in this work, he appeared as Edward Park, the axis of the evil that aims to kill Lee Seung-gi, and did not disappoint the viewers with his villain acting.
