EXO’s Suho Disappoints Fans As He Was Seen Eating Boycotted Brand McDonald’s

EXO member Suho faced criticism from pro-Palestinian fans for eating McDonald's amid the intensifying Israel-Palestine war

On August 2nd, a fantaken photo of EXO’s Suho at a McDonald’s store spread rapidly in online communities and social media, such as X (formerly Twitter).

Later on the same day, the male idol uploaded a picture of a McDonald’s hamburger on the private fan communication app Bubble, revealing that he was eating it. Suho mentioned the brand’s name directly, saying “I ate McDonald’s for the first time in a year and a half”.

As such, many fans expressed disappointment over Suho’s free promotion for McDonald’s because this fast food brand is among the boycott targets by the BDS Movement.

In particular, Israel initiated a deadly attack on civilians in the Gaza Strip. While Israel’s actions are considered crimes against humanity by the International Court of Justice, McDonald’s has been giving free meals to the Israeli army. McDonald’s made an attempt to take control over all their restaurants in Israel to save the brand’s image after it began to be connected with the Israeli army. However, as free meals are still donated to the Israeli army, criticism and boycott movements continue.

As such, the fact that Suho, a public figure, not only bought food at McDonald’s but also posted a picture is considered a free promotion for the controversial brand.

Fans are even more disappointed knowing Suho participated in a charity market a few months ago to raise funds for Palestine and the Gaza children. Some question the reason Suho openly shared about the boycotted brand even though he knows exactly what’s happening in Palestine and even made donations to Palestine and criticized his insincerity.

Aside from Suho, several K-pop idols, such as BTS’s V, have also faced a backlash for posting about McDonald’s and brands boycotted by pro-Palestine fans.
