Ex-Teen Top C.A.P “Idol culture is getting sick”

Former Teen Top member C.A.P (real name Bang Min Soo) talked with fans about idol culture.

On July 2nd, a video titled “Since when did ‘idol’ become a pseudo-love job?” was uploaded on Bang Min Soo’s SNS channel.

Bang Min Soo said, “I’ll talk biasedly about ‘Who is eating away this culture?’ and ‘What is it that makes active idols have a hard time?’, which I had felt for 14 years as an idol.”

Bang Min Soo explained, “The reason why I think the idol culture is getting sick is because the people who are preparing to become idols are constantly being brainwashed by companies. They keep being brainwashed, such as ‘You shouldn’t date’, ‘You shouldn’t smoke’, ‘You shouldn’t drink alcohol’…

He emphasized, “Even fans always make a fuss when idols make the slightest mistake. When I was a trainee, it was physical labor. After debuting, it becomes emotional labor. Unexpected people swear and throw stones at me.”

Bang Min Soo went on to say, “With the development of SNS, it became tougher for celebrities. Even though there are a lot of malicious comments, idols can’t say anything. Many idols take a rest because they’re sick both physically and mentally.”

Finally, he confessed, “‘Idol’ isn’t a job that sells fantasies. Initially, idol groups came around, not to sell fantasies, but to do what solo performers couldn’t do alone. Even the word ‘idol’ itself is wrong.”

Meanwhile, Bang Min Soo debuted through boy group Teen Top in 2010. Bang Min Soo created numerous hit songs with members such as “Rocking”, “Miss Right”, “Crazy”, “Clap”, “No more perfume on you” and “To You”.

However, Bang Min Soo has recently been complaining about his activities. Last month, he decided to leave the group ahead of the comeback and terminate his exclusive contract.
