Director Yoon Jong-bin of Netflix’s “Narco-Saints” shared a surprising behind-the-scenes story.
On Sep 18th, a video titled “Behind-the-scenes commentary of actors who are as good at telling stories as acting” was uploaded on the YouTube channel “Netflix Korea”.
Director Yoon Jong-bin, who appeared in the video with 5 main actors Yoo Yeon-seok, Jo Woo-jin, Hwang Jung-min, Ha Jung-woo and Park Hae-soo, surprised everyone by revealing, “We filmed this at an actual prison in the Dominican Republic. Actual prisoners made an appearance.”
Director Yoon watched the prison scene in the drama and said, “They actually stay there. We got them some bread, we gave them something for prison. All the extras are model inmates. They committed petty crimes.”
Ha Jung-woo added, “There’s a fight scene at the barber, and the person who’s cutting the hair is the leader (in prison).”
Hwang Jung-min was surprised, “Really? The scene where everyone is reaching out, that was real too? No wonder, they were such good actors.” Ha Jung-woo recalled the time of filming, “It feels kind of weird.” Yoo Yeon-seok burst into laughter as if he was bewildered, “They’re actual prisoners?” Hwang Jung-min also exclaimed, “No way.”
Director Yoon said, “There were no actors there. But they kept asking if they could use our phones.” Ha Jung-woo continued, “Since security is tight, you can’t take your phone in with you. You have to leave everything to enter.”
Netflix’s original series “Narco-Saints” depicts an ordinary entrepreneur who has no choice but to risk his life in joining the secret mission of government agents to capture a Korean drug lord operating in Suriname.
It is gaining huge popularity thanks to its tense storyline and the solid acting skills of famous actors such as Ha Jung-woo, Hwang Jung-min, Park Hae-soo, Jo Woo-jin, Yoo Yeon-seok and Chang Chen.
