Chinese actress Wen Zhangwan has stirred controversy with a cryptic livestream comment many believe was aimed at her former co-star Esther Yu nicknamed the “Drama Queen” of C-ent.

While discussing her views on authenticity in the industry, Wen claimed she couldn’t get along with “overly calculating people” and criticized someone for being fake, boastful, and superficial “even bragging about chicken feet as Michelin-worthy.” She praised Zhao Lusi and Chen Duling for their honesty and kindness, further fueling speculation that the shady remarks were aimed at Esther Yu.
Netizens quickly “connected the dots,” pointing to Esther’s reputation for exaggerated mannerisms, love for designer brands, and her past digs at fellow celebrities. The actress was even accused of downplaying and mocking other stars, including stylist critiques and passive-aggressive comments during promotional events.
This tension has been brewing for a while. Wen and Esther starred together in two dramas, including the recent “When the Swallows Return,” but lacked the off-screen chemistry that Wen shares with Zhao Lusi and Chen Duling. In contrast, Wen publicly promoted Zhao Lusi’s drama despite being part of a competing project with Esther.

Online reaction has been divided. Some criticized Wen for being unprofessional and stirring unnecessary drama, while others applauded her for “exposing” the fakeness behind C-ent’s glamorous facade. Meanwhile, Esther’s fans have defended her, calling the accusations unfounded and rooted in jealousy.
As Wen Zhangwan continues to show strong friendships with Zhao Lusi and Chen Duling, the alleged rift between her and Esther Yu only grows more public—and divisive.
