“I apologize for my insufficient vocabulary and knowledge…” Enhypen Jay released the second apology for his controversial remark about Korean history

Enhypen Jay, who is still under fire for his disparaging remark about Korean history even after apologizing, bowed his head again.

On January 18th, Jay posted his second apology regarding the controversy over his careless remarks about Korean history through the fan communication platform Weverse.

In the apology, Jay admitted his mistake, saying “I apologize for expressing my ideas wrongly with my insufficient vocabulary and without understanding the deep history of our country enough. At that time, during the live broadcast, I expressed my thoughts on Korean history with only the limited amount of materials and knowledge that I had learned, and did not realize that I had conveyed the wrong meaning. The member who was doing the live broadcast with me tried to correct my remarks, but I was so careless and couldn’t realize my mistake at that time.”

Regarding the controversy over the choice of his expression in his previous apology, Jay said, “My choice of words in the previous apology also shows my lacking side. I should have thought carefully before saying anything. I really want to apologize for that. I expressed our country’s deep history in the wrong way because I was so careless. I did not even have enough vocabulary to apologize properly”, reflecting on himself.

“I will try to listen to more people’s stories in the future and become more careful in the future,” he said, adding, “I am sorry. I will do my best to become a better person and stand in front of Engene.”

Previously, during a Weverse live broadcast with Enhypen member Sunghoon on January 10th, Jay said, “Since I like studying history, I should say that the amount of information on Korean history isn’t that much. If you just study or skim for a few weeks, (Korean history) ends too quickly. It feels like a short story.” Thus, his remark led to a controversy over insulting Korean history.

Afterwards, the male idol posted an apology, and was reprimanded for his careless expression.

Hello. This is Enhypen Jay.

I am writing this to apologize once again for my inappropriate expression of Korean history during the Weverse live broadcast on January 10th.

I apologize for expressing my ideas wrongly with my insufficient vocabulary and without understanding the deep history of our country enough. At that time, during the live broadcast, I expressed my thoughts on Korean history with only the limited amount of materials and knowledge that I had learned, and did not realize that I had conveyed the wrong meaning. The member who was doing the live broadcast with me tried to correct my remarks, but I was so careless and couldn’t realize my mistake at that time.

My heart ached at the weight of my mistakes, which I came to know while reading Weverse Live and the words that many people said after the last post. I am reflecting on how big my mistake could become. However, I felt that this was not something that could be solved by reflection alone, and I thought that in order to correct the things that started with my remarks, I had to properly admit my mistakes and apologize again. I was worried about the thought that I shouldn’t use insufficient expressions again in this apology, so I posted this late today.

I keep thinking about how not to make the same mistake again. I think the amount of thoughts I have had about the situation is still insufficient. I want to think about it more deeply and show my efforts through actions rather than words. I will try to listen to more people’s stories in the future and become more careful in the future.

I’m truly sorry to Enhypen members and Engene who love us because I think I caused a lot of damage to the team because of my lacking expression and wording. I am sorry. I will do my best to become a better person and stand in front of Engene.
