“Dr. Romantic” writer reveals the meaning of Seo Hyun Jin’s appearance in season 3’s last episode

“Dr. Romantic” writer Kang Eun Kyung drew attention by revealing the meaning of Seo Hyun Jin’s appearance in season 3’s last episode.

SBS’ Friday-Saturday drama “Dr. Romantic 3“, which ended on June 17th, depicts the story of “true doctors” at a small hospital named Doldam, which is located in Gangwon Province. It is a work that wrote the history of Korean-style seasonal dramas over a period of 7 years, from season 1 (2016), season 2 (2020) to season 3 (2023).

In the second half of season 3, season 1’s Kang Dong Joo (Yoo Yeon Seok) appeared. In the epilogue, the back side of Yoon Seo Jung (Seo Hyun Jin) appeared, giving a thrill.

Writer Kang Eun Kyung revealed that Yoo Yeon Seok’s special appearance was planned from the planning stage of season 3.

Writer Kang Eun Kyung said, “Kang Dong Joo’s appearance was essential to complete the outstanding-disciple project picture that Teacher Kim dreamed of (from season 1). Yoon Seo Jung’s appearance is also an extension of that.

Regarding the points and messages she wanted to emphasize in season 3, she replied that while seasons 1 and 2 focused on the growth of doctors, season 3 focused on the medical reality we are currently facing.

She shared, “I thought the drama should now talk about the reality pouring in more harshly through the trauma center. That was the way to repay the love we received in seasons 1 and 2.”

Regarding her thoughts on working with Han Suk Kyu from season 1 to season 3, she said, “Teacher Kim, played by actor Han Suk Kyu, is the worldview of Doldam Hospital and is like a switch to turn on and off the drama. Every moment was touching. As soon as actor Han Suk Kyu put on the doctor’s gown, we all became teleported so naturally to the place where Doldam Hospital exists. This is the power of a character created by an actor! There was pleasure in being overwhelmed.”

She then mentioned the possibility of season 4.

Writer Kang Eun Kyung confessed, “Actually, I didn’t know I’d write season 2 when season 1 was over, and I thought about whether season 3 would be possible when season 2 was over. Even now, I’m still thinking, ‘Is season 4 possible?’ Nevertheless, viewers said they’d wait for us again, so I’m very grateful.
