According to entertainment reports on January 7th, internal medicine specialist Dr. Lee Sang‑wook recently uploaded a video to his YouTube channel Neighborhood Doctor Lee Sang‑wook titled “They Said They Lost Weight With Exercise… A Famous YouTuber’s Diet Pills – I, a Doctor, Actually Tried Them Too.”

In the video, Dr. Lee opened by saying, “Because of Park Na‑rae, this issue has grown widely in the entertainment industry. The matter of butterfly pills has become quite talked about.” He explained that the pills are named for their butterfly‑like shape and stressed that “this is a very serious problem.”

Sharing his personal experience, Dr. Lee revealed, “I once weighed like a baby elephant… and I was prescribed butterfly pills and took them myself.” He added that he lost about 20 kg and admitted, “Honestly, the effect was very good. That’s why I don’t do diet treatments myself.”

Dr. Lee described the effects of butterfly pills: “They make your heart race. You sweat. You can’t sleep. The biggest effect is on the central nervous system. They increase metabolism, help burn fat, and above all, suppress appetite.” He noted the significant weight loss effect.

However, he strongly warned about the risks. “They are addictive,” said Dr. Lee. “It’s hard to quit. They’re the same as drugs.” He shared how difficult it was for him to stop taking them, recalling, “Even after sleeping two or three hours, I wasn’t tired because I was so stimulated.”

He explained that after quitting, “the stimulation effect disappears and your body gets extremely tired.” Dr. Lee warned that the pills contain phentermine, sharing that their chemical structure is “the same as methamphetamine and other drugs. It’s not an exaggeration to call it a drug.” He also added that quitting can cause anxiety and tolerance builds up over time.

The so‑called “butterfly pills” refer to weight‑loss drugs containing phentermine, a powerful appetite suppressant classified as a controlled substance.
