“Doctor Cha” So Ah Rin”, “Unlike his character Seo In Ho, senior actor Kim Byung Chul is very sweet”
Young actress So Ah Rin talked about acting with seniors Kim Byung Chul and Myung Se Bin in JTBC’s “Doctor Cha”.
So Ah Rin told various behind-the-scenes stories about JTBC’s Sat-Sun drama “Doctor Cha” during an interview with Star News on May 30th.
Scheduled to end on June 4th, “Doctor Cha” tells about Cha Jung Sook (Uhm Jung Hwa), who becomes a first-year resident after being a housewife for 20 years. It is receiving huge love from Korean drama fans and has nearly reached 20% rating.
In “Doctor Cha”, So Ah Rin plays the role of Choi Eun Seo, the daughter of Choi Seung Hee (Myung Se Bin). In particular, as Choi Eun Seo is revealed to be Seo In Ho (Kim Byung Chul)’s child out of wedlock and the half-sister of Cha Jung Sook’s daughter Seo Yi Rang (Lee Seo Yeon), viewers’ immersion in the story was increased even more.
Starting with tvN’s 2019 series “Black Dog: Being A Teacher”, So Ah Rin has begun to expand her acting activities by starring in numerous works, such as SBS’s “Racket Boys”, tvN’s “Melancholia”, TVing’s “The King of Pigs”, Disney’s “Grid”, etc.
During the interview, So Ah Rin confessed, “I still can’t believe that the drama is gaining so much love from viewers. I learned a lot during the filming process and I think I will remember these memories for a long time”, adding “I could feel the popularity of ‘Doctor Cha’ when hearing people mentioning it at cafes and other places. I was also fascinated to see stories about me on the bulletin board when I go to my university.”
Regarding the ending of “Doctor Cha”, she said, “I enjoyed reading the script. Wouldn’t viewers who watched the drama feel the same way?”
So Ah Rin also revealed that during the six months of “Doctor Cha” filming, she was a high school senior preparing for the college entrance exam and actually lived a similar life to Choi Eun Seo’s. The actress shared, “My situation was really similar to Eun Seo’s and the only difference was our majors. I struggled a little to do the filming and prepare for the exam at the same time. I tried hard to differentiate the character from my real life. Since vocalization was very important, I practiced a lot. There were times when my voice didn’t sound good, so I tried my best to take care of it because Eun Seo had lots of scenes where she confronted her mother and shouted.”
In addition, So Ah Rin described her chemistry with Myung Se Bin and Kim Byung Chul, who appeared in the drama as her mother and father.
“Senior actress Myung Se Bin has already been so kind to me and treated me like her real daughter from the first time we met. Since the story revolves around Eun Seo and her mother living together, we inevitably became so affectionate towards each other. She took great care of me and helped me in acting. She gave me a lot of advice and supported me enthusiastically. Even after the filming ended, I still called her ‘mom’. Senior Myung Se Bin also contacts me often. I got a call from her recently. Every time we talk, she always calls me ‘my daughter~’”, the actress said.
So Ah Rin added, “Senior Myung Se Bin is like my role model, and I wanted to become an actress like her. Thanks to her warm care, it was easier for me to act and I could try various things when acting.”
Regarding Kim Byung Chul, the young actress said, “Compared to ‘mom’ (Myung Se Bin), I had fewer encounters with him as ‘dad’. He didn’t always laugh brightly when we met in the scenes. Instead, he looked a bit uncomfortable and cautious. It seems like he didn’t know how to handle me”.
She added, “But when we didn’t have to be in our characters, like before the filming, he was really kind and sweet. He always calls me ‘Ah Rin ah, Ah Rin ah’, instead of ‘Eun Seo’. He pays attention to those little details and takes care of me really well. Also, at that time, I was in the midst of preparing for my college entrance exam, so he gave very sincere answers whenever I asked him about that. Unlike his character Seo In Ho, who doesn’t look like a father to Eun Seo, senior actor Kim Byung Chul is truly like a father to me and he’s a very kind-hearted person.”
