“Doctor Cha” Lee Seo Yeon talks struggles to maintain acting career and relationships with other “Doctor Cha” cast
Former child star Lee Seo Yeon shared her endeavors to support her acting activities and relationships with the cast of “Doctor Cha”.
“Doctor Cha” has been making waves in the drama scene and was a powerful comeback from Uhm Jung Hwa. However, Lee Seo Yeon is also gaining the spotlight thanks to the medical series. Netizens are eager to learn more about the actress as there is not a whole lot of information about her on the web.
Recently, the actress joined an interview with Ilgan Sports and revealed more about her life. She shared the tough life of juggling being an actress, working part-time at a coffee shop, and tutoring.
At first, Lee Seo Yeon expressed her surprise as “Doctor Cha” received a rating record, partly contributing to JTBC’s domination in the drama scene in the first half of 2023.
She expressed, “The reaction from my family was the best. My grandfather lives on Jeju Island, and he did publicity and made my phone wallpaper with my picture. My mother was calmer than I thought, but my father said, Are you going to be a star?’” She also recalled her friends’ reactions, stating, “The reaction of my friends was also interesting. I usually don’t wear makeup and look natural, so when they saw me on the screen, they were like, ‘Was my friend originally so pretty?’”
In the past, Lee Seo Yeon was called “The Next Yoona” because of her similarity to the singer and her portrayal of the younger version of Yoona’s character.
Contrary to her role in “Doctor Cha”, the former child star is a strong and hard-working girl. She juggles acting and part-time jobs to earn a living. Currently, she is studying at the prestigious Ewha Womans University.
The actress shared that she had to work part-time at a coffee shop and provide tutorship to financially support her acting career.
Seo Yeon also shared she got street-casted, saying, “I started out as an actor because of street casting. However, my brother and I are 6 years apart, and at that time, my brother was too young for me to be an actress”.
However, “The World of Us” star had to set her acting career aside to focus on the high-school exam at the time. She said, “When I was in middle school, I was okay with acting and studying at the same time, but in high school, it was very hard”. Initially, she made an agreement with her agency that she would only study for three years.
Nonetheless, “But I couldn’t stand it, so I went to audition when I was a sophomore in high school. Both academics and acting were important to me”, expressing a deep passion for acting while wanting to maintain her study.
In speaking of her relationships with other actors, actress Lee said, “In reality, [So A Rin] is a year younger than me. In the drama, we know that we are half-sisters and we fight and have a rivalry over our dad, but we are actually very close, so I think I was able to feel more comfortable getting angry and being honest about my feelings when we started filming”.
She also boasted a close relationship with actress Uhm Jung Hwa, who played her mother Cha Jung Sook, “Senior Jung Hwa was an example of ‘warmth.’ When I was struggling with the pressure of filming, she would hug me and watch over me until the end of the shoot”, showing off a mother-daughter-like relationship.
In addition, Seo Yeon said, “At that time, Uhm Jung Hwa appeared like Superman and advised me, ‘Seo Yeon, be greedy and take it slowly until the tears come out, it’s okay.’ I was so grateful”.
When asked if there is a genre he would like to try in the future, Seo Yeon replied, “I would like to try action acting and romantic comedy”.
