“Doctor Cha” Lee Seo Yeon, “I’m grateful that senior Kim Byung Chul always calls me by my real name”
Actress Lee Seo Yeon revealed the story of when she felt touched by Kim Byung Chul, whom she worked with in “Doctor Cha”.
Lee Seo Yeon played the role of Seo Yi Rang, the daughter of Cha Jung Suk (Uhm Jung Hwa) and Seo In Ho (Kim Byung Chul) in JTBC’s Sat-Sun drama “Doctor Cha”, which ended on June 4th.
“Doctor Cha” depicts the struggles of Cha Jung Sook (Uhm Jung Hwa), who becomes a first-year resident after being a housewife for 20 years. Recording a viewership peak of 18.5% in the last episode (episode 16), “Doctor Cha” ranked 4th among JTBC’s series with the highest ratings of all time, and received enthusiastic love from drama fans.
Seo Yi Rang portrayed by Lee Seo Yeon is a pure and cheerful high school student at the beginning of the drama. However, as the story progressed, the actress skillfully performed the character’s maturity with her graceful acting. Lee Seo Yeon contributed greatly to the success of “Doctor Cha” by fully expressing the complex emotions of Seo Yi Rang.
Regarding senior actor Kim Byung Chul, who acted as her father in the drama, Lee Seo Yeon said, “He may look arrogant and bossy in the drama, but he’s actually very sweet in real life. On the set, he always welcomed me by saying ‘Our Yi Rang has arrived.”
Revealing that Kim Byung Chul enjoys teasing everyone, Lee Seo Yeon smiled and added, “He would quietly come next to me then poked me on the other side. When I looked at the side he poked, he smiled happily. His little pranks were really interesting”.
According to the actress, what impressed her about Kim Byung Chul was that he addressed not only her but other actors by their real names instead of their characters’ names. Lee Seo Yeon explained, “I was deeply moved by his action. Although my character’s name, Yi Rang, is cute and pretty and appears in the script more often, calling me by my real name shows that he actually made an effort to search for my name and remember it.”
She continued, “I felt very touched by that aspect of him. I was so grateful that he tried to remember a young actress like me despite being such a great senior.”
