It was reported on September 21st (KST) that her movie “Dear Vanessa” was officially invited to the short film section of the 35th Newfest Film Festival, which will be held in Manhattan and Brooklyn, New York, USA on October 12th (local time). Rookie actress Jueun Kang plays the lead role in the film.

“Dear Vanessa” is a movie that explores the hidden emotions of Lucy, who aspires to be a film director, towards her beloved friend Vanessa. Directed by Roku Jingwen Long, a Chinese-born American filmmaker, the film focuses on the complex emotions of the protagonist Lucy (Jueun Kang) with Vanessa (Isabel Yun-ru Chen).

This film gained international recognition when it was officially selected as the Best Short Film (BEST WINNER) at the Boden International Film Festival in Sweden last summer. It will also be screened at the Manhattan SVA Theater on October 20th, during the Newfest Film Festival.

Prior to this, Jueun Kang will meet American audiences with another short film.

The movie “Cola” starring her was selected as an official screening at the “2023 New York Shorts International Film Festival”, which opens on October 13th. In “Cola”, Jueun Kang takes on a playful and energetic lead role. “Cola” will be screened at New York Cinema Village on October 16th.

Jueun Kang, who is actively involved in New York’s independent film scene, is making a name for herself not only as an actress but also in the fields of playwriting, directing and planning.

She has created various works, including clown shows, theater of the absurd and immersive (audience participation) plays, and has earned recognition for her artistic talent in the Broadway theater scene. Jueun Kang’s theater of the absurd work “Doo Indayz” was selected as an outstanding play in the competitive section of the Lighthouse Creative Theater Festival held at Off-Broadway theater and SoHo Playhouse in May and July last year.

Her other works, such as “Quiet Islands” and “Blue Gum”, also achieved sold-out performances and received positive responses from local audiences and critics.
