“Dancing Queens on the Road” faces heavy backlash and refund requests

Amidst Hwasa’s controversy, “Dancing Queens on the Road” is facing a surge of refund request for disregarding paying audiences.

On the official Instagram account of the TV program “Dancing Queens on the Road”, numerous complaints from the audience have been piling up.

In particular, audiences who attended the concert held at Hwajeong Gymnasium, Seoul Campus, Korea University in Seongbuk-gu, Seoul on July 9th, expressed dissatisfaction with the amateurish stage production and the duration of the performance. They also left negative comments regarding various other issues.

One left a comment stating, “I understand that it’s a special situation because it’s for a broadcast, but it was really excessive. If that’s the case, they should have accepted applications for free attendance instead of charging for the concert. I watched a three-minute performance and waited for 30 minutes. They had separate talk segments, stage preparations, cleanups… Is it right to make the audience wait like that?”

Other audience members also expressed their discontent, complaining that the “Dancing Queens on the Road” concert was too focused on filming, it ended up ruining the in-person experience.

Below are some comments from netizens who attended the concert:

  • It felt like they were sprinkling flower petals and turning off the lights, cleaning up for about 10 minutes every time before each stage. It happened about seven to eight times
  • I had to wait for a long time in-between each song, and there were a lot of delays… How can this be called a concert?
  • They even re-did a performance because the recording didn’t work, and didn’t provide any announcements…
  • The Sunday evening performance was constantly delayed, causing it to end late, and some people couldn’t see the end because they had to leave early to catch the last train
  • It was a performance without any consideration for the audience…
  • There were paying audience members, not just the audience who received free invitations…

At the same time, there were also numerous complaints about the performance lineup. According to many, they came to see the stage of “Dancing Queens on the Road” cast, which includes Kim Wan Sun, Uhm Jung Hwa, Lee Hyori, BoA, and Hwasa, but suddenly, there were continuous guest performances. Guests such as Rain, Zico, Hyuna, SHINee Taemin, and Red Velvet Seulgi, reportedly took up a large part of the show.

In addition, since this was the final performance of the cast together, many expected it to be filled with well-loved songs, including new stages, but it ended with just two or three songs. “Why did they invite male singers who have nothing to do with the troupe, and why did they sing only a few songs? It wasted time with unnecessary interviews, and the audience became tired, so the cheers gradually diminished, and some fans couldn’t see the encore stage because of transportation issues. I feel sorry for them,” a comment, which received a lot of support by fellow audiences, stated.

Another demanded that the focus should be the main cast members, and guests should perform later.

Finally, there were also complaints about the air conditioning in the venue not functioning properly, creating a hot and humid environment for the audience. Since going to the restroom during the performance would disrupt the recording, many audiences had to wait outside the venue for 30 minutes, it was also revealed.

As a result, there was a huge influx of demands for refunds, with people stating that they wasted their time after going through fierce ticketing battles and that they want the 55,000 won they paid for each ticket back.

Despite all of this backlash, however, the production team of “Dancing Queens on the Road” has not taken any position on the matter.

On the other hand, “Dancing Queens on the Road” captures the nationwide tour of several top female artists in Korea, including Kim Wan Sun, Uhm Jung Hwa, Lee Hyori, BoA, and Hwasa.

Here, the group would perform different concerts in various districts of the country and meet local fans, and a recorded portion is broadcast.

However, in May, after a performance at a university festival, controversies arose around Hwasa, who unexpectedly presented a provocative performance. This segment was eventually edited out in the final broadcast.
