Current status of the actress who used to get pocket money from Yoo Jae Suk when she was a rookie

The past of Cha Jung Hwa, from when she was an unknown actress until she became a scene stealer, draws attention from drama fans.

Netizens recently discussed the filmography of actress Cha Jung Hwa, who left a deep impression on viewers with her performances in “Crash Landing on You” and various dramas.

Revealing that she was an actress under DY Entertainment founded by Shin Dong Yup during her unknown days, Cha Jung Hwa said, “I was in the same company with Yoo Jae Suk. Whenever Yoo Jae Suk stopped by when I was in the company office, he gave me pocket money”. She added, “Yoo Jae Suk was also an artist in the company so I met him at the office quite often. He gave pocket money to all the actor trainees and juniors whenever he visited the company”.

Upon hearing the story, Yoo Jae Suk reacted, “I didn’t know that person was Chung Hwa at that time”, adding “I didn’t know it was her because she had short hair and wore clothes with hip-hop style back then”.

Throughout her rookie days, when she still received pocket from Yoo Jae Suk, Cha Chung Hwa earned her living and continued to pursue acting by doing various part-time jobs. In fact, she was not sure if acting suited her so she tried to experience different jobs, such as arranging clothes at clothing stores in Dongdaemun.

Cha Jung Hwa confessed, “I’m happiest when I act”. She is only focusing on acting with firm determination. The actress has portrayed various supporting roles, from young to old characters, at small theaters.

Cha Jung Hwa appeared in the famous movie “Train to Busan” as a zombie wearing hiking clothes and left a strong impression on viewers. She also transformed into a boxer in “Legal High”. The actress, who has played numerous minor and supporting roles, once confessed, “Even though I worked hard to film the scenes, I received a call the day before the premiere saying all my scenes were edited out”. 

In 2019, she appeared in “The Fiery Priest” as Lee Moon Sik’s secretary and became a scene stealer. Cha Jung Hwa finally entered her heyday after meeting “Crash Landing on You”. Portraying a North Korean, she thoroughly studied how to speak North Korean by watching Youtube videos of North Korean announcers and practiced her vocalization as well as pronunciation. On the day of the audition, she prepared a hanbok that gave off the feelings of a North Korean announcer and beat all the candidates who are North Korean defectors to win the role.

Later, Cha Jung Hwa became a familiar face on the small screen after appearing in “Mr. Queen”, “Beyond Evil”, “Hometown Cha Cha Cha”, “Dr. Park’s Clinic”, etc. Not having an outstanding visual, Cha Jung Hwa still made viewers exclaim with her impressive acting performances.
