Criticism Over Park Min-young’s Outfits Not Matching Time & Place Setting In “Marry My Husband” Continues

tvN’s Mon-Tue drama “Marry My Husband”, which tells about Kang Ji-won (Park Min-young) living her second life after returning 10 years in the past, is under fire.

It is good to see Kang Ji-won realizing and cherishing herself more after getting a second chance to live, however, her outfits have crossed the line in terms of Time, Place, and Occasion (TPO). Her controversial outfits as an office worker have emerged as a debatable topic recently.

The controversy over Kang Ji-won’s excessive TPO outfits arose after episode 3 aired on January 3rd. Kang Ji-won wore a fancy dress to change her past and prevent her dark history from happening again. It’s nice to see her look more confident, but the fact that she wore a halter-neck dress at a BBQ restaurant and turned the scene of a casual reunion into an award ceremony shocked not only her classmates but also viewers.

Despite being an ordinary office worker, Kang Ji-won’s drastic transformation did not stop at the reunion. From luxury items that do not suit the character’s setting to an alluring outfit exposing one shoulder, Kang Ji-won’s outfits were considered the “worst office worker TPO” by viewers.

The characters’ costumes are one of the main elements contributing to the building up of the worldview and story of the drama. It is because costumes provide data on the characters and enhance the direction of the plot and characters’ narratives so they change depending on the time and place of the drama setting. Pulling off the right costumes is also part of an actor’s external acting.

The fact that Kang Ji-won’s look at the workplace is being pointed out as something to laugh at is actually not a funny thing at all. This proves that Park Min-young’s external acting has completely failed. As such, criticism also poured out on the actress’s lack of research and analysis of the character.
