Shippers of BTS V and Jungkook’s Controversial Behavior In Response to V’s Dating Rumors with BLACKPINK Jennie

When BTS V and BLACKPINK Jennie’s dating rumors circulate online, TaeKook fans take controversial actions.

Shipping couple can be understood as the act of pairing members in a group. Shipping culture has become a dominant feature of fandom culture. In some fandom of an idol group, the proportion of a couple fan can outweigh the group’s fans.

Recently, shipping is receiving mixed opinions for behaviors that might have been too much and can potentially damage the fandom as a whole.

Recently, BTS V and Jungkook are gaining attention for being a “shipped” couple with an established fan base amid V and Jennie’s dating rumors. They are known to be a famous ship because of their similarity in appearance and popularity.

Shipping fans tend to hold a strong belief in their shipped couple and often produce works about them, often known as fan fiction, according to Starnews. When photos allegedly of BTS V and BLACKPINK Jennie were released on social media, “TaeKook” (BTS Taehyung – Jung Kook) couple fans expressed their disbelief and reportedly criticized Jennie for “destroying” V and Jung Kook’s relationship. Fans of this ship took the matter to other platforms such as TikTok to “protect their ship”.

The reaction sparked discussions as netizens took jabs at how fans are assuming their idols’ sexual orientation and how that could affect the idols.

In reality, some idols admit to feeling uncomfortable when being “shipped” to other members of the same sex. Super Junior Yesung and Zico said they felt uneased when they read shipping stories about them accidentally.

In the past, there was a time when V was experiencing insomnia and tried to discuss the matter with fans. When a couple fan said he should look at Jungkook’s picture to get better sleep, V responded: “Come out of your imagination now, it’s not good there”.
