“Controversy over personality” Yoo Yeon Seok filed a complaint with the police
Actor Yoo Yeon Seok filed a criminal complaint with the police regarding the claims surrounding his personality.
According to Star News on March 24th, Yoo Yeon Seok’s agency King Kong by Starship filed a complaint with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency on March 23rd for charges of defamation and publishing false information.
On March 21st, a long post exposing Yoo Yeon Seok’s personality was uploaded on a community bulletin board, sparking controversy.
In particular, the post was written by netizen A, who claimed that their father worked as a security guard at Yoo Yeon Seok’s building.
“My father especially liked Yoo Yeon Seok among the celebrities living there since he looked honest, sincere and kind on TV. Even though Yoo Yeon Seok didn’t return his greeting once, he only thought Yoo Yeon Seok was busy“, A wrote.
Then, A continued, “One day, he came home with a dark expression, and he quit being a security guard that month. After that, when actor Yoo Yeon Seok appeared on TV, my father’s expression became distorted and he went into his room. He said, ‘Yoo Yeon Seok isn’t a good guy, he’s a bad guy.’“
According to A, Yoo Yeon Seok, along with his friends, made disrespectful remarks about A’s father, leading to A’s father quitting his job as a security guard because he felt ashamed and humiliated.
The post quickly spread online. As the controversy did not subside, Yoo Yeon Seok’s agency King Kong by Starship made an official position on March 22nd.
King Kong by Starship said, “We are aware of the post and have grasped the fact. The claim is groundless. We will take strong legal action against the original poster regarding false information.“
After the agency’s strong warning, an apology towards Yoo Yeon Seok appeared. On the community bulletin board where the aforementioned claim was uploaded, there was a post saying that they wrote false information out of jealousy.
However, the agency insisted on taking strong action. King Kong by Starship said, “A post acknowledging the spread of false information has been uploaded. We are very sorry about this situation. As we informed you earlier, we will proceed with a criminal complaint against the original poster on charges of defamation without leniency.“
The controversy over Yoo Yeon Seok’s personality seemed to end with A’s apology and the agency’s legal response, but the embers revived as an additional post appeared.
In this post, original poster A said they had never written an apology, claiming that the apology was “fake”. In response, an official from King Kong by Starship told Star News, “We read the additional post. We will continue to file a criminal complaint.“
