TV Chosun’s weekend drama Confidence Queen hit its highest point yet on September 28, when episode 8 recorded a peak rating of 2.1%.
Initially struggling in direct competition with tvN’s hit Bon Appétit, Your Majesty, the drama started with a 1.1% rating and plummeted to 0.9% by episode 4, sparking concerns about its survival.
Despite its ratings woes, viewer response was positive. Many praised the drama’s quality, noting, “Park Min Young’s acting is amazing,” and “It gets more entertaining the longer you watch.” Others felt that the drama’s placement on TV Chosun limited its reach, saying, “If it were on a major network, it would be much more popular.”
To avoid competing head-to-head with Bon Appétit, Your Majesty, TV Chosun shifted the show’s airtime from 9:10 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Starting with episode 5, ratings bounced back to 1.3% and continued climbing, reaching an average of 1.8% by episode 8.
Still, some viewers expressed disappointment that ratings didn’t rise higher, with analysts pointing out that dramas often struggle to recover once they miss momentum in early episodes.
A remake of the Japanese series The Confidence Man JP, the drama follows three unique con artists who target greedy, power-hungry individuals through elaborate schemes. Park Min Young leads as Yoon Yi Rang, a genius swindler with an IQ of 165, who masterminds the team’s operations with her eccentric and unpredictable ideas.

Supporting her are Park Hee Soon as James, a middle-aged conman who exemplifies French chic, and Joo Jong Hyuk as Myung Gu Ho, the team’s earnest but clumsy “fool” whose innocence often leads to unexpected victories.
Thanks to its refreshing storylines and gripping execution, the series is also gaining momentum on Coupang Play, ranking second only to Office Workers.

At the press conference, Park Min Young admitted, “No one can guarantee success, but being Amazon Prime’s first Korean original came with pressure and responsibility.” She added, “Each character feels alive and dynamic. I wanted a role that was physically active and energetic, and this time I could fully embody that. It’s the kind of role any actor would want.”
With four episodes left in its 12-episode run, fans are eager to see if Confidence Queen can deliver an even more dramatic finish.
