The weekend drama battle is heating up as TV Chosun’s Confidence Queen has made a major scheduling change after suffering dismal ratings.
After just four episodes, the series which began at 1.1% and briefly rose to 1.5% before plummeting to 0.9% was forced to move from its original 9:10 PM slot to 10:30 PM starting with episode 5 on September 20. The adjustment comes amid concerns that its caper drama concept, led by Park Min-young, didn’t quite match TV Chosun’s traditional audience base, which has favored titles like Love (ft. Marriage and Divorce) and Red Balloon.

A remake of the hit Japanese drama The Confidence Man JP, the show follows three con artists Yoon Yi-rang (Park Min-young), James (Park Hee-soon), and Myung Gu-ho (Joo Jong-hyuk) who craft elaborate schemes to outwit greedy individuals. Despite being Amazon Prime’s first Korean original series, its domestic ratings have failed to keep up with stiff competition. tvN’s Bon Appétit, Your Majesty recently broke its record with 15.4% in episode 8, while SBS’s Queen Mantis pulled in 7.5%.

Now, with its new timeslot, Confidence Queen will go head-to-head with JTBC’s A Hundred Memories, starring Kim Da-mi and Shin Ye-eun. Although the JTBC drama started modestly at 3.3% and 3.6% for its first two episodes, the matchup signals an intense ratings showdown. By rescheduling, TV Chosun avoids a direct clash with Bon Appétit, Your Majesty and Queen Mantis, but whether this gamble pays off remains to be seen.

The weekend primetime schedule is already overcrowded, with all major broadcasters and cable channels competing for viewership. With Kim Da-mi’s series still leaving room for growth and Bon Appétit, Your Majesty showing no signs of slowing down, this weekend could be a critical turning point for Confidence Queen.
The series now airs every Saturday and Sunday at 10:30 PM on TV Chosun and Coupang Play, and streams globally on Amazon Prime Video across 240 regions (excluding Korea).
