According to data from the Korean Film Council’s Integrated Computer Network for Box Office Admissions, Colony remained the No. 1 film on June 3, drawing 331,490 moviegoers in a single day and pushing its cumulative audience total to 4.04 million.

Directed by Yeon Sang Ho, Colony reached the 4-million-viewer milestone just 14 days after its release, becoming the fastest film released in 2026 to achieve the feat. The film has consistently broken annual box-office records, reaching:

  • 1 million viewers in 4 days
  • 2 million viewers in 5 days
  • 3 million viewers in 10 days
  • 4 million viewers in 14 days

The thriller follows survivors trapped inside a quarantined building during a mysterious outbreak, where infected individuals evolve into increasingly unpredictable forms. The film’s success has been attributed to Yeon Sang Ho’s signature genre storytelling, intense confined-space suspense, and the performances of a star-studded cast including Jun Ji Hyun, Koo Kyo Hwan, Ji Chang Wook, Shin Hyun Been, and Kim Shin Rok.

Meanwhile, Wild Sing got off to a strong start, attracting 160,758 viewers on its opening day and accumulating 182,079 admissions overall. The opening-day figure surpassed the first-day performance of this year’s previous box-office champion, The King and the Man, which opened with 117,783 viewers. What makes the achievement particularly notable is that Wild Sing accomplished the feat despite being screened on fewer screens, thanks to its high seat occupancy rate.

Directed by Son Jae Gon, Wild Sing tells the story of Triangle, a once-popular co-ed dance group that disbanded overnight after becoming embroiled in an unexpected scandal. Twenty years later, the former members are given one last chance at a comeback and embark on a series of outrageous and often hilarious challenges in an attempt to revive their careers.

The film stars Park Ji Hyun and Kang Dong Won, whose comedic performances have been praised by audiences.

Viewer responses have been overwhelmingly positive. The film has reportedly earned:

  • CGV Egg Index: 95%
  • Lotte Cinema Rating: 9.2/10
  • Naver User Rating: 9.01/10

Strong word-of-mouth fueled by the film’s blend of humor and heartfelt moments has positioned Wild Sing as one of the summer season’s potential breakout hits.

The found-footage horror film The Backrooms ranked third with 114,110 admissions, bringing its cumulative audience total to 572,775. In fourth place was Michael, directed by Antoine Fuqua, which added 37,148 viewers and reached 1.47 million admissions overall. Rounding out the top five was Zenitendo: The Curious Candy Store, which attracted 30,346 viewers and continued to draw family audiences during the holiday period.

With Colony continuing its record-breaking run and Wild Thing entering the market with a powerful debut, Korean films claimed the top two positions at the box office. As June begins, the competition between established blockbusters and promising newcomers is expected to keep theaters busy, setting the stage for a heated summer movie season in South Korea.
