A shocking scandal at Coldplay’s Music Of The Spheres concert in Boston on July 17 has become a global internet sensation—leading to conspiracy theories involving The Simpsons and a viral AI-generated image.
During the concert, a couple appeared on the “kiss cam” while cuddling affectionately among a sea of fans. But instead of sharing a kiss, the two awkwardly covered their faces and quickly disappeared from the crowd. Within hours, online sleuths uncovered their identities: Andy Byron, CEO of the tech company Astronomer, and Kristin Cabot, the firm’s Head of HR. The revelation shocked the public even more when it was discovered that both individuals are already married.

However, just as the buzz began to fade, a wild claim reignited the internet: The Simpsons allegedly predicted this exact scandal nine years ago. Netizens resurfaced a supposedly prophetic scene from The Simpsons Season 26, Episode 10 (The Man Who Came to Be Dinner, aired January 4, 2015), where a couple resembling Byron and Cabot is caught on a kiss cam at a concert. Their animated counterparts even wore similar outfits and accessories, fueling speculation.

Fans of the long-running show believed that the creators had once again predicted the future—a reputation The Simpsons has earned over the years by seemingly foreseeing real-world events, from Donald Trump’s presidency to global pandemics and futuristic tech.
But the truth isn’t so simple.
Hardcore fans and credible news sources, including WION and Marca, confirmed that the viral cartoon image was not from any actual episode. Instead, the image was AI-generated and falsely attributed to The Simpsons. Al Jean, longtime showrunner of The Simpsons, addressed the rumor directly, stating: “We write satire, not prophecies. If anything feels like a prediction, it’s just a coincidence.”

Still, the coincidence continues to fascinate audiences and inspire conspiracy theories surrounding the show’s uncanny accuracy.
This isn’t the first time The Simpsons has been linked to real-world musical moments. Back in 1996, the series aired an episode where hip-hop group **Cypress Hill **randomly teamed up with the London Symphony Orchestra. What seemed like a bizarre animated gag became reality in July 2024—when Cypress Hill actually performed with the orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall, turning a 28-year-old joke into a live concert experience. While not a true “prediction,” the moment was embraced as a fan-led tribute to the show’s legendary legacy.

Meanwhile, the Coldplay concert scandal has had an unexpected impact on the band’s music. Following the viral moment, Coldplay’s catalog saw a 30% spike in daily U.S. streams. Their 2000 hit “Sparks” even surged to No. 42 on Spotify U.S.’s Top 50 chart. At one point on July 17, Coldplay impressively held the top 3 spots on the platform.
