Chinese drama faces controversy over kiss scene with excessive water waste

A trending Chinese drama has been embroiled in criticisms after excessively wasting water over a kiss scene.

The Chinese drama “Fireworks of My Heart” has recently become a popular hit among Chinese viewers. Here, actor Yang Yang portrays the role of Fire Chief Song Yan, while actress Wang Chu Ran assumes the role of Xu Qin, an emergency doctor, who specializes in treating burns.

In a recent episode that aired, however, there was a scene from “Fireworks of My Heart” that sparked controversy among Chinese netizens. The scene in question shows Song Yan and Xu Qin reigniting their love for each other and sharing a passionate kiss after a certain incident.

The scene started with the two characters kissing in the living room, before continuing into the kitchen. While engaging in intense physical contact at the kitchen counter, Xu Qin turned on the sink faucet, and this scene lasted for 40 seconds.

After the broadcast, however, the focus shifted from the kiss to the 40-second running water, which seemed out of place. In particular, viewers expressed their dissatisfaction at the kiss scene with excessive water waste, and on social media, the hashtag “Why did they turn on the tap during Song Yan and Xu Qin’s kiss” began trending.

Even the Hunan People’s Court, a government agency, joined the discussion. They shared a video on approved water-saving methods and added hashtags to their post.

On the other hand, Yang Yang began his acting career by playing the male lead Jia Bao Yu in the 2010 drama “The Dream of Red Mansions”. He has since appeared in numerous works, such as “Youth Melody”, “Martial Universe”, “The Four”, “Love O2O”, and “The King’s Avatar”, gaining a lot of love in China.

Meanwhile, Wang Chu Ran has participated in various works, including “Have a Crush on You”, “Royal Feast”, and “Oh My General”, proving her acting talents.
