On June 27th, Son Dongwoon personally shared the news of his marriage through his Instagram. He cautiously wrote, “It might be sudden news. I know that many of you might be surprised and have mixed feelings, so I’m still very nervous and cautious.“
He continued, “Fortunately, I met someone who understands me and cares for me a lot, and at some point, I felt that I wanted to be together with them in the future. We’ve decided to hold the wedding ceremony in September. I apologize for not being able to personally share this news earlier and for keeping it to myself.”
Fans responded to Son Dongwoon’s marriage news with congratulations, leaving comments such as, “Finding a lifelong partner is a remarkable thing. Following Son Dongwoon’s sudden marriage announcement, suspicions were raised among some netizens about premarital pregnancy. However, Son Dongwoon’s agency, Around Us Entertainment, stated, “There is no premarital pregnancy.”
In the past, EXO’s Chen and iKON’s Bobby faced criticism for announcing both marriage and premarital pregnancy news.
Especially, some of EXO’s fans have consistently been demanding Chen to leave the group since he announced his marriage news in 2020.
On January 13, 2020, Chen revealed that he had a girlfriend he wanted to spend his life with and that while discussing marriage with his agency and EXO members, his girlfriend got pregnant. Some fans strongly criticized him, claiming that “Chen has negatively influenced EXO’s image.”
Bobby caused a shock when he announced on August 20, 2021, that his fiancée would give birth the following month. Bobby also faced public criticism due to the damage caused to iKON’s image.
