On September 24, Chelsea fans once again shook their heads in frustration at the club’s goalkeeping situation after Filip Jorgensen accidentally punched teammate Wesley Fofana in the face just two minutes into the match.
The bizarre incident occurred during Chelsea’s Carabao Cup third-round clash away at Lincoln City. Jorgensen rushed out to clear the ball but ended up striking Fofana directly in the face.
The 24-year-old defender fell to the ground in pain and required medical attention. The game was briefly halted, though fortunately, Fofana was able to continue playing.

The unusual collision immediately went viral on social media. One fan mocked: “Fofana just came back, and Jorgensen already punched him in the face.” Another raged: “Sell Jorgensen to any club right now.” A third bluntly added: “Jorgensen is even worse than Sanchez.”
This wasn’t the first time Chelsea’s goalkeeper woes had made headlines this season. First-choice keeper Robert Sanchez was heavily criticized for repeated errors, including a reckless red card in the 2–1 defeat to Manchester United on September 20. Legend Jamie Carragher previously remarked: “With Sanchez in goal, Chelsea cannot dream of winning the Premier League.”
Jorgensen, a £20.7 million summer signing from Villarreal in 2024, has yet to justify his price tag. While doubts remain about Sanchez, Jorgensen’s performances have left fans even less convinced, turning Chelsea’s goalkeeper position into a major headache for manager Enzo Maresca.
At the LNER Stadium, Chelsea fell behind after Rob Street gave Lincoln a surprise lead. However, young duo Tyrique George and Facundo Buonanotte stepped up, inspiring a comeback that saw the Blues advance to the next round.
