Cha Tae-hyun & Jo In-sung’s “Unexpected Business 3” Problems: From Poor English Skills To Hygiene Controversy

Led by Cha Tae-hyun and Jo In-sung “Unexpected Business” started as a small supermarket in the countryside in February 2021 then expanded to a discount store in Gongsan, Naju in 2022. The scale of this year’s Season 3 has leveled up to a Korean mart in the US, drawing keen attention since the planning stage. However, various problems have appeared in Season 3 from the first episode.

First of all, the mart’s owners Cha Tae-hyun and Jo In-sung are not fluent in English so there were obstacles in communication. Apart from Korean customers, many locals also visited the mart.

Cha Tae-hyun once confessed that he urgently studied English for 3-4 months after knowing that “Unexpected Business 3” was going to be held in the US. It’s not Cha Tae-hyun and Jo In-sung cannot speak English at all. Of course, they can do well in basic conversations and simple communications, but their English skills are not enough to run a mart. One of them should at least speak Korean as fluently as guest Han Hyo-joo

Next, Cha Tae-hyun was in charge of calculations and the cash POS but he began doing it without fullying understanding the basic tasks of a cashier. This leads to awkward situations and causes viewers’ frustration.

In addition, viewers also expressed disappointment over the hygiene controversy. The cast members were seen talking without wearing sanitary masks while making gimbap and tasting gimbap while wearing sanitary gloves. As the controversy intensified, the production team issued an apology.

The fact that “Unexpected Business” has come to Season 3 proves that the show has unique charms. As unpleasant issues still occurred, it is important that the production team should not overlook the basics when planning the program.
