In a video titled “30 Years of Marriage: The Original Tetonam, Cha In-pyo’s Way of Love”, released on the YouTube channel “Weracle” on August 1, Cha became emotional while reminiscing about his late sibling.
During the video, Cha rode alongside host Park We and humorously pointed out, “We know so many of the same people, but this is actually the first time we’ve met. My wife was invited to your wedding and I even dropped her off, but I wasn’t invited myself. Turns out most of my friends were at your wedding.” Park We responded warmly, introducing Cha as “the original tetonam (a man who exhibits strong masculine traits)” and praised his character based on stories from mutual acquaintances.

Cha also took the opportunity to clear up misconceptions about his family background. “There’s a rumor that I come from a wealthy background, but that’s not the full picture. My father ran a small business, and my parents divorced. My two brothers and I lived with our mother. Though my father helped with child support, we lived a modest life. My mother eventually took us to the U.S., where I worked part-time jobs and paid my own tuition. It wasn’t easy.”
He also touched on his love story with his wife, actress Shin Ae-ra, saying with a smile, “Our first impressions of each other weren’t great.” Still, he emphasized their enduring bond after 30 years of marriage: “A married couple should think of themselves as a team. If you keep putting your partner down, the whole team suffers.”

The most touching moment of the video came when Cha was asked to send a message to someone he loves. With misty eyes, he addressed his younger brother Cha In-seok, who passed away from oral cancer.
“My younger brother’s name is Cha In-seok. It’s been 12 years since he went to heaven. I’ve seen him in my dreams three or four times, and I wish it were more often. I recently had a meal with your daughter—she’s grown up so much. Although the world has changed in 12 years—with AI and apps like KakaoTalk—my longing for you has never changed. I wish we could have lived together longer, but maybe God loved you so much that He brought you home early. I’ll do my best to live well in your place and wait until we meet again in heaven. I love you.”

Host Park We was visibly moved, adding, “I also have a younger brother. When I was injured, he stayed by my side for six months. Hearing your story brought tears to my eyes.”
Cha In-seok, who passed away in 2013, was a graduate of the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) with a degree in economics and worked as an executive at the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS). His death left a profound impact on Cha In-pyo, who continues to cherish his brother’s memory.
