According to an exclusive report by MyDaily on February 11, the Netflix original series had faced internal discussions regarding a possible delay. However, the platform ultimately decided to proceed with its initial release date without changes.
Part of the series will reportedly be unveiled on May 15, while a production presentation event featuring the cast is currently being coordinated for May 12 and 13.
A Highly Anticipated Superpower Action Comedy
“The Wonderfools” is a superpower comic action-adventure set in 1999, a time when apocalyptic beliefs were widespread. The story follows a group of ordinary neighborhood underachievers who unexpectedly gain superpowers and band together to fight villains threatening the peace of Haeseong City.
The drama has drawn significant attention as a new project from the creative force behind ENA’s breakout hit “Extraordinary Attorney Woo.” The series stars Cha Eun-woo alongside Park Eun-bin and other cast members.
Release Unaffected by Controversy
Concerns emerged about the drama’s premiere after allegations involving Cha Eun-woo surfaced. Speculation suggested that the controversy might delay the release. However, with the actor preparing for military enlistment, Netflix decided to move forward with the original schedule.
Last month, Cha Eun-woo reportedly received a notice from the National Tax Service demanding over 20 billion KRW in additional income tax payments. The issue stemmed from a management service contract between the actor and a corporation established by his mother, which allegedly applied a lower corporate tax rate instead of the higher personal income tax rate.
In response, Cha Eun-woo stated, “I will reflect on myself more strictly moving forward and live with a greater sense of responsibility to repay the love I have received.” Despite the ongoing controversy, “The Wonderfools” remains set to meet viewers worldwide on May 15.
