Celebrities who had conflicts with their agencies

1. EXO Baekhyun, Xiumin and Chen

EXO Baekhyun, Xiumin and Chen (hereinafter referred to as CBX) notified SM Entertainment of the termination of their exclusive contracts through the law firm Lin last June. According to CBX, the reason is that SM did not disclose the settlement data transparently and forced slave contracts. In response, SM Entertainment explained that the settlement data can be viewed at any time and that the contracts are transparent based on a standard exclusive contract. Fortunately, SM and CBX dramatically resolved the conflict through a mutual agreement.

2. Song Ji Hyo

Actress Song Ji Hyo claimed that she did not receive about 1 billion won in contract settlement money from her former agency Uzurocks through the law firm Namsan. Song Ji Hyo notified Uzurocks of the termination of the exclusive contract last April and said she did not receive about 984 million won in settlement money. Uzurocks said they would pay Song Ji Hyo the unpaid settlement on July 17th (US time). Song Ji Hyo’s original payment date was February 10th.

Former LOONA member Chuu filed a lawsuit against the agency Blockberry Creative to terminate her exclusive contract. Chuu and the agency failed to narrow differences in opinions caused by different values. In the end, Blockberry Creative announced in November last year that they would expel Chuu from the group. Immediately, Chuu raised Blockberry Creative’s settlement issue. After that, 9 LOONA members, excluding Vivi and Hyunjin, filed injunctions to suspend the validity of their exclusive contracts.

4. Lee Seung Gi

In November last year, Lee Seung Gi revealed that he was not paid a penny for 137 songs during his 18 years of career. Lee Seung Gi sent a content certificate demanding his former agency Hook Entertainment provide him with details of his digital sales profits and pay him his music-related profits. He then notified Hook Entertainment of the termination of his exclusive contract. In the end, Hook Entertainment paid Lee Seung Gi about 5.4 billion won in music revenue.

5. C.A.P (Bang Min Soo)

C.A.P (real name Bang Min Soo), who debuted as a member of boy group Teen Top in 2010, showed his free aspect by smoking and swearing during a live broadcast on his YouTube channel last May. As fans continued to criticize, C.A.P made a shocking remark through a real-time broadcast, “I’m thinking of not making a comeback.” After C.A.P’s remark, the agency TOP Media announced the news of C.A.P’s official withdrawal from Teen Top, saying, “We deeply apologize for C.A.P’s reckless remarks and behaviors that caused concern to many people.
