Cecilia Cheung appeared visibly distressed during a court session on December 8, as she faced off with her former manager Yu Yuk Hing in a long-standing contractual dispute. According to HK01, the 43-year-old actress was “emotionally overwhelmed”, sobbing and shouting “Everything is a lie!” before being calmed by the judge so proceedings could continue.
The court reconvened in the afternoon, where the plaintiff’s lawyer questioned Cheung regarding a recorded meeting where she allegedly stated four times that she would “comply with the agreement.” The lawyer pressed her on whether this referred to an Exclusive Artist Management Agreement signed in July 2014.

Cheung, once again, lost control of her emotions and broke down in tears. “I’ve made it very clear why I stayed and why I didn’t want to escalate this,” she told the court. “I stayed to protect myself because I knew he had betrayed me. I didn’t want him to betray me again.”
She added, “I could’ve cut ties completely. I didn’t because he has a young wife and is battling cancer. I forgave him. I don’t care about winning or losing the case. But I’ve been in this industry for 45 years—I don’t want to keep facing things like this. Only here can I speak freely. Only here can I tell the truth.”

The judge once again paused the proceedings to calm Cheung. The court is scheduled to resume on December 9.
The case dates back to 2011, when Cheung signed a global exclusive management contract with Yu and AEG Entertainment Group Limited. Yu claims he advanced Cheung HK$40 million to star in four films, with an additional HK$2.76 million later paid for two more projects. However, Yu alleges she failed to fulfill the contractual film quota and breached the terms. He is suing for approximately HK$12.76 million in damages.
Despite the passage of time, the case remains unresolved, and public interest has reignited following Cheung’s emotional courtroom appearance.
