Canadian Ahn Hyo-seop and Choi Woo-sik, puppy-like boyfriends with non-Korean nationality but a surprising profile

With their delicate acting and heartwarming charm, these two actors are aiming to be the new King of the romantic comedy genre.

A tough boyfriend that is indifferent to others, but sweet to their girlfriend. This is the boyfriend standard shown by Ahn Hyo-seop and Choi Woo-sik in the SBS dramas “Business Proposal” and “Our Beloved Summer.” With their delicate acting and heartwarming charm, these two actors are aiming to be the new King of the romantic comedy genre.

A Business Proposal

SBS Monday-Tuesday drama “Business Proposal,” which ended on April 5th, ended with a 11.4% viewer rating and a record of No. 1 among Monday-Tuesday dramas. In the broadcast, Kang Tae-moo (played by Ahn Hyo-seop) and Shin Ha-ri (played by Kim Se-jung), who first met through a fake blind date, were depicted overcoming opposition from both families and proposing to each other.

Ahn Hyo-seop captivated viewers with his high-speed love style through the role of Kang Tae-moo, a CEO and the third-generation of a conglomerate family. He has become a man in every woman’s dream with not only his tall appearance, but also his feisty and productive work at the company, and his affectionate charm to his beloved girlfriend. Those were the first contributor to get the viewer’s interest in the drama, which is affectionate and full of healing. He also proved a wide spectrum of acting with his cheerfulness, seriousness, and an acting style between comedy and melodrama.

Our Beloved Summer

If there was Ahn Hyo-seop in “Business Proposal,” there was Choi Woo-sik in “Our Beloved Summer.” “Our Beloved Summer” is a work that has received positive responses of people in their 20s and 30s as their favorite youth romantic comedy.

Choi Woo-sik depicts in-depth a story of fresh and painful youth. From a free-spirited high school student to illustrator Choi Woong, who is living a meaningless life after experiencing a painful first love, his character’s development over time is expressed in a complex and three-dimensional manner. Even after being reunited with his first love Kook Yeon-soo (played by Kim Da-mi), the couple continued to struggle due to their traumas, creating sympathy. Through this drama, Choi Woo-sik drew affection from viewers by summoning memories of their first love and past relationships that anyone would have experienced at least once.

Ahn Hyo-seop and Choi Woo-sik, who have emerged as the new “drama boyfriends” among people in their 20s and 30s, have a lot in common. They improved themselves by continuously acting with their stable acting skills that surpass their handsome puppy-like visual. Ahn Hyo-seop showed a variety of performances from a refreshing high school student to a doctor with a painful past through the dramas “30 But 17” and “Romantic Doctor 2.” Choi Woo-sik has emerged as a global star by exploring different genres through the movie “The Giant,” “Train to Busan,” “Witch,” and “Parasite.”

They both have a connection with JYP Entertainment when they were still rookies. Ahn Hyo-seop was a former JYP trainee, while Choi Woo-sik began his acting career as an actor at JYP.

Both actors have Canadian citizenship. Ahn Hyo-seop said in an entertainment show in the past, “I was an ordinary student who lived in Canada, and I got a call from JYP’s new development team,” adding, “I practiced together with GOT7 when the team was in the making, but I couldn’t join the team due to lack of skills.” At that time, Ahn Hyo-seop persuaded his parents, who opposed him, and came to Korea alone at the age of 17 and spent nearly three years as a trainee at JYP. Choi Woo-sik also started working as an actor in Korea while he was in college in Canada. Both actors are fluent in English because they grew up in Canada.

Ahn Hyo-seop and Choi Woo-sik show their acting skills that add depth and delicacy to their roles the more they act. Attention is focusing on the next move of both actors, who have become the new master of romantic comedy genre through “Business Proposal” and “Our Beloved Summer.”
