Korean actress Go Yoon Jung has spoken candidly about the polarizing dual-role setup in the hit drama Can This Love Be Translated?, revealing that the experience was just as shocking for her as it has been for viewers.

In the series, Go Yoon Jung plays top star Cha Moo Hee while also portraying her alter-ego Do Ra Mi. The unconventional narrative choice has sharply divided audiences, with some praising its originality while others questioned the concept, jokingly asking whether the story was meant to be romantic or psychological.

Addressing the controversy in a recent interview with Korean media, Go Yoon Jung admitted she, too, was taken aback by the script’s direction. “At first, I only received the scripts for the first four episodes,” she explained. “I never expected Do Ra Mi to literally enter the real world and become a character who could interact with the male lead. For me, that was a huge shock.”

Despite the pressure, the actress said the role ultimately fueled her excitement. “Beyond the stress, there was more anticipation,” she shared. “It was a style of acting I had never attempted before.”

Go Yoon Jung went on to describe the stark contrast between her two characters. “Moo Hee always speaks in roundabout ways, hiding what she truly means,” she said. “But Do Ra Mi is direct, free-spirited, and emotionally honest. When the feelings come, they just come. Acting as her was actually very refreshing.”

She added with a laugh that Do Ra Mi’s personality is closer to her real-life self, while Moo Hee required much deeper analysis. “When playing Moo Hee, I had to constantly break down the lines to find what she wanted to say but couldn’t. Do Ra Mi, on the other hand, barely has any walls up because she’s too honest.”

Talking about the slow-burn romance with Joo Ho Jin, played by Kim Seon Ho, Go Yoon Jung admitted she fully understands viewers’ impatience. “When I first read the script, I found myself thinking, ‘When are they finally going to get together?’” she said. Still, she believes the repeated near-misses and emotional misalignment are what make romantic comedies so compelling.

To enhance that sense of tension, she revealed that many scenes included improvisation. “I wanted to turn that frustration into something light and funny,” she explained, “so the rhythm stayed playful instead of heavy.”

As for her chemistry with Kim Seon Ho, Go Yoon Jung described it as a partnership that developed naturally. “We didn’t force ourselves to become close quickly,” she said. “But the chemistry came fast. For every scene, we shared the same thought: ‘Can we make this just a bit more interesting?’”

With debates still raging over its bold storytelling choice, Can Love Be Translated? continues to draw attention—not only for its romance, but also for Go Yoon Jung’s daring and multifaceted performance.
