Quickly after their singles “Whistle” and “Boombayah,” BLACKPINK ascended to global popularity as a globally famous K-pop girl group. They attracted attention with addictive music and captivating choreography through releases one after another. The girl group also successfully broke into global rankings.

When BLACKPINK dropped “BORN PINK,” the YG girl group topped the Billboard 200 and the U.K.’s Official Album Chart. Their “BORN PINK” world tour also drew in 1.5 million concert-goers around the world.

On YouTube, BLACKPINK garnered 90 million subscribers and billions of views on their MV, breaking records back to back.

With such global recognition, the BLACKPINK girls are representing luxury fashion brands left and right.

With many successes and milestones achieved together, fans are left wondering how BLACKPINK will continue their accomplishments individually.

Many fans speculate BLACKPINK will move onto The Black Label if they cannot reach a new agreement with BLACKPINK.

How BLACKPINK faces this chagne?

Recently, Lisa and Jennie are rumored to be moving on with other management companies. In the past, many K-pop girl group members have a harder time maintaining popularity as solo artists. This has happened to 2NE1, Sistar, 4Minute, and Miss A.

While working as a group may benefit an idol in many ways, most of them still opt for a solo career due to different reasons. It may be because of the arbitrary contract clauses that they agreed on during the early days of debut. It may also be because some idols want to pursue a new career path and expand themselves as an artist.

Therefore, how BLACKPINK members reach their final decisions depends on YG Entertainment’s future treatment. In the past, the company has been criticized for its negligence towards the girl group when it comes to promotions.

At the same time, other male groups under YG are on the rise. WINNER, iKON, and Treasure may draw in more fans; therefore, if BLACKPINK ever decides to not renew their contracts, YG can direct investment to its boy groups.

Nonetheless, BLACKPINK may continue as a group solely based on the unyielding support from fans. Kpoppo stated, with their major contribution to K-pop and a strong bond with BLINK, the YG girl group may continue their career as a group and create more inspirational music releases.
