Can BABYMONSTER Ahyeon’s Return Save YG Amidst Turmoil?

YG has been in crisis lately. G-Dragon has moved to Galaxy Corporation. All four BLACKPINK members’ individual contract renewal fell through. Jennie’s already established her own label, ODDATELIER.

With the big names leaving, YG’s stock prices are dropping, causing concerns among their shareholders. Meanwhile, the spotlight is shifting to the rookie girl group BABYMONSTER – YG’s supposed future.

BABYMONSTER

On January 1st, Yang Hyun Suk announced BABYMONSTER’s schedule. After their debut with “Batter Up” with barely any promotions, Yang Hyun Suk says BABYMONSTER is making a comeback on February 1st, and there’s a hint of the return of the ace member, Ahyeon.

Ahyeon, with her looks and all-around talent, was supposed to be the Jennie of BABYMONSTER. But ahead of their debut, she was announced to be no longer in the lineup, citing health reasons. Yang Hyun Suk revealed that she’s getting treatment and will make a comeback soon. But she is likely not to be in the upcoming BABYMONSTER release on February 1st.

Having lost BIGBANG’s G-Dragon and BLACKPINK Jennie, Rosé, Jisoo, Lisa, YG’s future is a wild card, especially in the currently competitive industry.

BABYMONSTER’s debut was a bit of a letdown. Whether Ahyeon can return and save YG is still up in the air.

Korean netizens left comments:

  • I’m betting Ahyeon’s making a comeback; the ace hasn’t shown up yet.
  • Yang Hyun Suk’s still talking about Ahyeon, so she might be making a comeback.
  • Seriously, who believes anything Yang Hyun Suk says?
  • Will people actually wait for her? The public’s pretty quick to move on.
  • Trusting Yang Hyun Suk’s words is the dumbest thing to do.
  • But Ahyeon’s gonna save YG, right?
  • Can’t predict; Baemon’s debut was a bit meh, only Ahyeon’s familiar to the public.
  • What guarantees Baemon’s success? No wonder YG stocks are taking a hit.
