On February 20, a new episode of the YouTube channel Baek Eun-ha’s Joogobatgo featured Byun Yo-han as a guest to discuss his latest project, Pavane. During the conversation, host Baek Eun-ha shared her thoughts on the movie.

She described the characters portrayed by Moon Sang-min and Byun Yo-han as individuals whose very beginnings were denied figures who question their existence and wander through life in different ways. Reflecting on a poignant scene, she said it felt mysterious and moving to watch the two characters sit and stand quietly, blowing out a small candle, as if confronting the question: “Why was I born into this world?”

Suddenly overcome with emotion, Byun Yo-han’s eyes welled up as he confessed, “The reason I chose this project was because of that question. I chose it because of Chul’s son,” referring to his late friend, actor Na Chul.

He continued candidly, “If I were to be greedy as an actor, I honestly couldn’t have done this project. But as his closest friend and like an uncle (to his son), when I took on this role, I wanted to show him, ‘You’re no different.’ I wanted to say, ‘This is just life.’”

Byun Yo-han further explained that the theme he contemplated most deeply was the meaning of existence. “The moment our two feet touch the ground in this world, we must exist. But sometimes that very sense of existence can be painful. That’s why having people who truly look at you matters so much,” he said.

He added, “The three characters look at one another. If they stop seeing each other even for a moment, they return to square one struggling, feeling lonely, as if pulled back by elasticity. What I want to say through Pavane is that we must truly see one another. At least in this film, Kyung-rok, Mi-jung, and Yo-han warmly regarded each other, allowing one another to shine like light.”

Born in 1986, Na Chul gained recognition through dramas such as Vincenzo, Happiness, Through the Darkness, and the Wavve original series Weak Hero Class 1. He passed away on January 21, 2023, while receiving treatment for worsening health, leaving behind colleagues and fans in deep mourning.
