The May 15 broadcast of MBC’s Friday-Saturday drama Perfect Crown depicted Seong Hui Ju, played by IU, risking her life to save Grand Prince Ian, portrayed by Byeon Woo Seok.
A fire suddenly broke out inside the royal chamber where Grand Prince Ian was staying. Upon hearing that he was trapped inside, Seong Hui Ju rushed into the flames without hesitation. She fought through the fire to reach him and desperately cried out, “Please save him! Is anyone there?”
Fortunately, thanks to Choi Hyeon, played by Yoo Su Bin, both Seong Hui Ju and Grand Prince Ian survived.
While staying by his side, Seong Hui Ju emotionally told him, “If I had been inside there, you would have come to save me too. You always did.”
Min Jeong Woo later became furious after seeing Seong Hui Ju injured, shouting, “Why would you go in there? How long am I supposed to endure this?” Feeling something strange about his reaction, Seong Hui Ju later learned through Do Hye Jeong, played by Lee Yeon, that Grand Prince Ian had gone to the royal chamber because of Min Jeong Woo.
Determined to uncover the truth, Seong Hui Ju decided to review an entire month’s worth of CCTV footage. She also confronted Yoon Yi Rang, played by Gong Seung Yeon, questioning whether she was worried because the accident occurred right before the royal succession ceremony and because the Queen Dowager had opposed the coronation.
Seong Hui Ju warned her, “His Highness will recover. Because only then will Your Majesty be safe as well.”
Meanwhile, Min Jeong Woo refused to release an official statement, and the investigation into the fire was conducted secretly. As rumors spread that Grand Prince Ian had died, Min Jeong Woo pressured Yoon Yi Rang to begin acting as regent.
Although Yoon Yi Rang insisted that the prince would soon wake up, Min Jeong Woo coldly replied, “Once the regency begins, it won’t be easy to reverse things even if he wakes up.”
At that very moment, Grand Prince Ian appeared alive.
When Ian embraced Seong Hui Ju and asked, “How could you go in there?” she tearfully answered, “How could I not? You were in there.” before breaking down in his arms.
Later, Seong Hui Ju asked him how much he trusted Min Jeong Woo. Ian replied, “There are many times I want to hit him, but I’ve never once doubted him.”
At the same time, Yoon Yi Rang discovered that her father, Buwongun, played by Jo Jae Yoon, was the mastermind behind the fire incident.
She knelt before Grand Prince Ian and confessed, “My father is trying to kill you.”
During the wedding ceremony, Yoon Yi Rang presented evidence connected to the crime and stated that the recent fire was likely also orchestrated by her father. She begged Ian to punish both her and her father but pleaded for him to protect the king.
Grand Prince Ian later confided in Seong Hui Ju, expressing emotional pain over the betrayal.
Ian then questioned Min Jeong Woo about the progress of the investigation into the wedding ceremony incident. Despite previous warnings from Yoon Yi Rang to be careful around him, Min Jeong Woo finally admitted that Buwongun was the culprit and angrily told Ian, “Please stop acting like a child.”
When Min Jeong Woo expressed concern about the future of the royal family, Grand Prince Ian shocked everyone by declaring, “The royal family cannot last forever. If I become king, I will abolish the monarchy.”
