BTS V’s ‘LayOver’ Sets UK Official Chart Record, NME Comments ‘Worth the Wait’

BTS’s V has made history by achieving the longest chart run for a K-pop soloist on the UK Official Charts with ‘LayOver’

In its debut week, ‘LayOver’ topped three categories on the UK Official Charts – the Single Download Chart, the Single Sales Chart, and the Album Download Chart, marking a historic achievement for a K-pop solo artist.

In its fifth week since release, ‘LayOver’ still holds the 9th position on the UK Official Album Download Chart, while the song “Slow Dancing” has made its way onto the UK Official Single Download and Sales Charts, establishing a remarkable chart presence. This demonstrates V’s solid popularity as a K-pop solo artist in the UK.

The album’s tracks, including “Love Me Again,” “Rainy Days,” “For Us,” and “Blue,” have consistently charted for five weeks in two categories.

On the UK iTunes Album Chart, V’s ‘LayOver’ claimed the top spot, surpassing even renowned pop stars like Drake, Ed Sheeran, and ABBA.

Not only in music but also in music videos, ‘LayOver’ generated a significant impact in the UK. The music video for “Love Me Again,” a track from the album, topped both the ‘Tidal UK Top Video Chart’ and the ‘Apple Music UK Video Chart,’ making it the first K-pop artist to achieve this dual victory.

V’s solo songs have been performing exceptionally well on the UK Official Charts. In January 2022, his drama OST “Christmas Tree” reached the 2nd position on both the Single Download Chart and Single Sales Chart, and “Sweet Night” also made it to the top 10 on the Single Download and Sales Charts for two consecutive weeks.

The UK music magazine NME, in its review of ‘LayOver,’ praised V’s musical depth, describing his voice as sublime and capable of reaching incredible heights with its emotional and deep range.

NME also lauded V’s choice of harmonious tones and the album’s sophistication, noting that V combines classic sounds with his modern twist.

NME commented that V prioritized artistic choices over commercialism, and though he may have made fans wait, it was undoubtedly worth it.
