BTS Members Shine as Top Nominees at iHeartRadio Awards

The global supergroup ‘BTS‘ and other K-pop teams, currently sending a ‘military pear tree’ (a metaphor for gaining international recognition), have become prominent nominees at the ‘2024 iHeartRadio Music Awards’ in the United States. Particularly, this year’s awards include three new categories in the K-pop section, namely ‘K-pop Artist of the Year,’ ‘K-pop Song of the Year,’ and ‘Best New Artist (K-pop),’ reflecting the elevated status of K-pop worldwide.

According to the list of nominees announced by the ‘iHeartRadio Music Awards’ on the 18th (local time), J-Hope, V, and Jungkook have been nominated in five categories collectively, including ‘Best Music Video,’ ‘Favorite On Screen,’ ‘Favorite Debut Album,’ ‘K-pop Artist of the Year,’ and ‘K-pop Song of the Year.’

J-Hope, through his first official solo album ‘Jack In The Box’ and the HYBE original documentary ‘J-Hope IN THE BOX,’ showcasing the album production process and various activities, secured a nomination in the ‘Favorite On Screen’ category. In the ‘Favorite On Screen’ category this year, fierce competition includes works such as Beyoncé’s world tour documentary film ‘Renaissance: A FILM by Beyoncé’ and Taylor Swift’s live concert film ‘Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour.’

V and Jungkook have each been nominated in the ‘Favorite Debut Album’ category for their first solo albums, ‘Layover’ and ‘GOLDEN,’ respectively. Both ‘Layover’ and ‘GOLDEN’ entered the Billboard 200 chart at 2nd place, achieving the same feat as Jimin’s ‘FACE’ and Suga’s ‘D-DAY,’ marking the highest rankings for K-pop solo artists. Notably, ‘GOLDEN’ set a record as the K-pop solo album with the longest consecutive stay on the ‘Billboard 200,’ charting for 10 weeks.

Additionally, Jungkook has made history by receiving nominations in four categories, including ‘Best Music Video,’ ‘K-pop Artist of the Year,’ and ‘K-pop Song of the Year.’ In the ‘Best Music Video’ category, Jungkook’s solo singles ‘Seven’ (feat. Latto) and ‘3D’ (feat. Jack Harlow) are nominated. He is the only solo artist to have multiple songs nominated in this category, competing against Billboard Hot 100 chart-topping songs such as Doja Cat’s ‘Paint The Town Red’ and Olivia Rodrigo’s ‘Vampire.’
