On August 31, Big Hit Music stated, “Out of respect for Jimin’s private life and the other person involved, we refrained from making any statement. However, due to ongoing speculation, unverified reports, and false rumors, we are compelled to clarify the minimum facts. Jimin once had mutual feelings with the person in question and they dated years ago, but they are not in a relationship now.”
Though he didn’t specify when the relationship began or ended, the agency’s emphasis on “years ago” suggests it was before Jimin’s military enlistment—possibly during the height of BTS’s global dominance on the Billboard charts.

What impressed many was Jimin’s silence until now. Even after Song Da-eun uploaded a video of him—showing her waiting by an elevator and Jimin, surprised yet sweet, warmly greeting her—he chose not to respond hastily. Instead of issuing a quick “we dated but broke up” statement, he remained quiet to protect and respect his former partner.
When he finally did speak, it wasn’t for himself but seemingly to protect Song Da-eun from further harm. Big Hit Music urged fans to refrain from reckless speculation, emphasizing, “Please avoid actions that could cause damage to the individual mentioned alongside Jimin.” Even after their breakup, Jimin showed concern for her, making it clear he didn’t want her subjected to unnecessary backlash or harsh words.

The timing reflects not cowardice but empathy: Jimin waited until rumors escalated, then stepped forward firmly to clarify while still shielding Song Da-eun. It was a display of respect that stood in stark contrast to many celebrity responses.

Currently, Jimin is in the U.S. working on BTS’s upcoming music, scheduled for release next year. After enduring such personal turmoil, anticipation is high for the emotion and artistry he will channel into his next songs.
