BTS, ITZY, aespa, TXT…7 K-pop albums in the “Billboard 200”

ITZY ranked 8th and J-Hope ranked 17th while TXT has been staying for 10 weeks in a row and LE SSERAFIM is on their 12 consecutive weeks on the global chart.

Billboard’s main album chart “Billboard 200” has become a playground for K-Pop. A total of seven K-pop teams, including global supergroup BTS, have entered the latest Billboard 200 chart.

According to Billboard on July 26th (local time), ITZY‘s fifth mini-album “CHECKMATE” and BTS member J-Hope‘s solo full album “Jack In The Box” has newly entered the “Billboard 200”.

As Billboard said earlier in a preview article, ITZY’s “Checkmate” came in 8th place on the “Billboard 200.” They are the fourth K-pop girl group to enter the “Top 10” after BLACKPINK (#2), TWICE (#3), and aespa (#3).

BTS J-Hope, who topped the Billboard 200 six times with his group members, also ranked 17th with “Jack in the Box”, as predicted on Twitter and other SNS.

In particular, J-Hope became the first Korean solo artist to have 2 albums in the Top 40 of the Billboard 200, as in March 2018, his 1st mixtape “Hope World” was ranked 38th on this chart.

BTS’s anthology album “Proof”, which reached top of the Billboard 200 chart immediately after its release, is ranked 37th this week, 18 positions down from last week’s 19th place. Still, the album has impressively remained in the chart for 6 consecutive weeks.

aespa’s latest album “Girls”, which entered the Billboard 200 at 3rd place last week and fell to 67th this week, has stayed in the chart for 2 weeks in a row.

Meanwhile, the 4th mini album “minisode 2: Thursday’s Child” of the group TXT (TOMORROW X TOGETHER) landed at 128th on this week’s Billboard 200. The album entered the chart at 4th place back on May 28th, and has remained on top for 10 consecutive weeks. As of the moment, TXT’s album has stayed on Billboard 200 for the longest among Kpop releases of 2022.

TWICE Nayeon’s first solo mini-album “IM NAYEON” entered Billboard 200 at 7th place, making her the first Kpop soloist to enter the Top 10 with a solo album. “IM NAYEON” is now in 135th this week, and has charted for 4 weeks in a row.

SEVENTEEN‘s 4th full-length album “Face The Sun” was ranked 187th this week, the same spot as last week. With this position, the Kpop boy group has remained in the chart for 7 consecutive weeks, breaking their own record.

“Billboard 200” is the ranking that is determined by adding up the figure of album sales converted from traditional physical album sales, digital music downloads, and streams. The bigger the artists’ fandoms are, the higher they rank. This is why K-pop groups with many fans in the North American market perform well on this chart.

Albums of K-pop groups are performing consistently well on the Billboard charts.

BTS’s “Proof” ranked 4th place on the ‘World Album’ chart, 16th place on the ‘Top Current Album’, and 19th place on ‘Top Album Sales’. J-Hope’s “Jack In The Box” achieved ‘World Album’ No.2, ‘Rap Album’ No.4, and ranked No.5 on both ‘Top Album Sales’ and ‘Top Current Album’ charts.

ITZY’s “Checkmate” is currently the No.1 on the ‘World Album’ chart, No.2 on the ‘Top Album Sales’, and No.2 on the ‘Top Current Album Sales’. TOMORROW X TOGETHER’s “minisode 2: Thursday’s Child” was listed on several charts, including ‘World Album’ (No.6), ‘Top Current Album Sales’ (No.7) and ‘Top Album Sales’ (No.7). aespa’s “Girls” also entered ‘Top Album Sales’, ‘Top Current Album Sales’, and ‘World Album’ for two consecutive weeks.

Meanwhile, HYBE’s girl group LE SSERAFIM ranked 132nd place on ‘Billboard Global Excl. US’ chart for 12 consecutive weeks with their debut song “FEARLESS”.
